Phonak Infinio Sphere 90 size

New Phonak hearing aids are coming this year and to be honest. I don’t want them to downsize the Sphere version because that means they’ll downsize the battery. My battery lasts more than a day and I want it to stay that way. If they do, I’d rather buy the older Sphere

I agree with you my Spheres aren’t updated to Ultras and I can get over 30 hours of battery life. When I stream upwards if 8 hours a day I still get over 20 hours out of the battery life.

I don’t disagree that functionality is more important than the cosmetics/size of a HA… That being said, I’ve been wearing Phonak aids for 15+ years and was super bummed to see how huge the Sphere is. I get it, but it just seemed like as step backward in some respects. Hoping I can have the best of both worlds when this next version comes out. If not, I’ll probably end up with the “Non Sphere” option if they still offer it. I’ll still stay with Phonak as my brain can’t switch to another brand at this point :)…

Do a trial with the Sphere i90s. The reality of the size is much better than the emotional response to seeing one and thinking it’s huge. It’s not. I thought the same thing until I put it on. We’re talking millimeters.

I decided to get black in case anyone noticed I was wearing a larger hearing aid–it was my ‘so what’ message. So far no one has noticed. I’ve even asked people, and they think it’s the same size as the other aids have worn over the last 20 years.

Don’t get the non-sphere’s. Get the best. You’ll be glad you did. Hearing is 24 hours a day. Size worries are gone before the first day is over.

In 2 to 3 years, the Sphere i90s will be smaller because the power efficiency will increase and the chip size will shrink. But that’s 2 to 3 years of using less than excellent technology.

I don’t understand people anymore when they think that the size of their aids is more important than functionality and battery life. Sure there are a few individuals that the Spheres maybe to large due to their physical size, but most don’t have that issue. I have seen infants and toddlers that wear aids larger than the Spheres and they sure don’t complain once they realize the benefits.

You must not be a parent, there isn’t any individuals like infants and toddlers that can signal their likes an dislikes. They are extremely vocal with that in their screams and smiles. They are much more likely to tell you than most adults.

I disagree. I have open domes and still get much improvement over the spech in noise programm.

Phonak has done their own studies on domes and the Sphere i90s. What I said is based on their recommendations and findings. The Spheric Noise in Speech db reduction was cut in half with open domes. That’s a logical conclusion because the DNN chip can only remove the noise that comes in through the HA microphones and not the noise that comes through the open domes.

Comparing the performance of the Infinio’s without the Deepsonic chip, like the Sennheiser Rise, to that of the Sphere i90 with open domes turns out to be a dead heat.

The Sphere i90s cost more than the other Infinio models, so it’s a personal decision. My wife wears open domes and doesn’t hear much difference between the lower-cost Infino models and the Sphere i90s, but both are an improvement over her Paradise aids.

In her case, the extra $800 for the Sphere i90’s over the Rise wouldn’t get her anything.

@PeterOo make yourself with what is called “occlusion effect” in order to maximize your success. One way is just to learn to live with that sound feeling over time (and get max performance). The other approach is to get a custom made slim tip where the venting is created such, that you get the best possible trade-off between performance and sound quality. The algorithm alone cannot change physics

That was my point in the first place and why should we either. The are just younger us. But it seems the older we get the more we complain about things that don’t matter at all. I have worn glasses for over 70 years. That fact never bothered me but it sure bothered other people. I have worn aids for 21 years, both large and small aids. You know something no one has ever noticed that I wear aids. I am sure that the decades before that I should have worn aids that people noticed that I didn’t understand them or flat out didn’t respond to something they said. I wear my aids and glasses as a badge of honor. While they are perfect they do help me tremendously. And actually they are part of me and my personality. I see people more and more complain about people trying to help them. I am honored when someone cares enough to help.

Try power domes (or even Easyguard power). I noticed that ordinary power domes from Unitron are with thicker silicone, so they have better grip, much less feedback and better isolation from noise.

I recommend to try smaller size of power domes/Easyguard power and try pushing they much deeper, to the ⅓ length of ear canal, closest to the eardrum, so quite deep. This greatly reduces occlusion effect.

That ⅓ length of ear canal is the so-called bony part of ear canal. It can take some time to get used to such a deep location and may even require attempts with an even smaller size of power domes/Easyguard.

Look at my audiogram - theoretically I am in high risk group of getting occlusion effect, but with advices above, it isn’t a problem.

I wear the Spheres and also have the Oticon INTENT1 aids. The Spheres to me is like having my hearing restored to 90% of normal hearing. No hearing aids can ever give me normal hearing. The Intent1 aids are also wonderful, but don’t hold a candle to the Spheres when it comes to speech in extremely noisy environments. I am someone that can tolerate a lot more noise that so many people can. But tolerating noise doesn’t mean understanding what is said. I wear custom ear molds that have just enough venting to be comfortable for me. My VA audiologist has set my aids up to my needs. My audiologist and myself have worked together as partners in my hearing needs for 8 years. I have had on average 6 appointments a year. And that is with only 2 a year for the last 3 years. My VA audiologist actually understands my hearing loss as he too has a similar hearing loss. But admitted that everyone has different experiences and requirements. We as humans are not clones of each other as the medical industry and drug industry wants us to believe. In my 21 years of aids I had domes for 3 months and hated every minute. My personal belief is that domes do more harm than good, unless you have great low frequency hear and a mild to moderate hearing loss.
