Phonak P90/312 RIC streaming distortion

Recently I found my distort on streaming and phone conversations. Even the bongs on start-up are distorted. And yet normal use is unaffected. I get the same results when streaming from my Apple Mac, so I don’t think the problem lies with my iPhone 15. The distortion is on both left and right. Could both receivers have gone bad at the same time? They have not been subjected to excessive moisture, only UK’s extreme heat. Any one with similar experience?

  • I failed to mention the were replaced with new 2 years ago, just before the 4 year warranty expired.

Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted all pairings and paired my again. No change. The distortion is only BT related apart from the start up bongs. Otherwise sound seems as good as normal.

BT streaming from my phone to BT speaker is good, as is streaming to stereo system. Definitely no distortion from iPhone.

The dilema is now whether to buy new receivers or to get my serviced. I’m leaning towards the service. If I recall correctly a service is about £150.

Good advice. Thanks. Back wearing my 9 year old Widex Dream 220 . The sound is so very different, not necessarily in a bad way.

But then I get zero distortion when in normal use, even when subjected to loud music and sounds. They seem to work perfectly. I’ve gone back to old Target sessions which I know worked perfectly for streaming, just in case I messed up some settings. Exactly the same distortion with past sessions.

If it were a soley a reciever problem the distortion would be persistently present. If it is present solely for bluetooth audio and the startup sound.

@KeithL Widex uses a much higher sampling rate than Phonak with a lower internal processing delay and a very different processing strategy, so there will be a noticable difference for many listeners.

I know it’s weird but I had a similar problem myself, but it was a crackle with , I swapped the receiver out and problem gone, I just thought it was only in certain frequencies in the BT stream that was doing it.
