As you will have no doubt found out, the Roger Installer is as rare as hens teeth, I managed to eventually track one down about 4 years ago or so, in South Korea via eBay, around £50 expedited Air Mail shipping back then, it weighs probably under an ounce, if memory serves me correct, I think I paid £170 or thereabouts for the installer…I haven’t seen any since then, apart from a Seller In Isreal, but you had to buy 2 installers, but that was a while ago, and I haven’t looked again since! Mine isn’t for sale, it was too difficult to find one… I would gladly install these for you, but I live in the Scottish Highlands, not very convenient for the Cotswolds, you could post them up, and I could post them back, but they would have to be Royal Mail Special Delivery £9.45 each way, but they only covers up to 100grams, and a value £750, and that doesn’t cover you if they get lost! Sorry, I can’t be more helpful! Most Phonak Audiologists will have a Roger Installer, you could ask one to help, to install a Type 02 or 03 Roger X Receivers, they can only say no, any Boots Hearing Care will have the Installer, they primarily work with Phonak, it will take less than 10 minutes to install both Roger X Receivers, good luck in your quest… Cheers Kev ![]()
Just noticed one here from a UK website for £259, might be worth a try?

I’d like to say that Kevels55 is totally trustworthy, as (I think he’d agree) I am too. I do believe I was the chap who first responded to you on Facebook, and you have now reached out here.
Now, I have many pairs of Phonak hearing aids (8), and self programme. I have an installer too, which I think I got for about £100 on Ebay. I have Roger licences in “most of them”, but frankly I just don’t use the Roger devices I have (Roger On, Roger Select, Roger TableMic 2).
Anyway, I’m not ready to sell my Roger Installer, but am prepared to make it avsilable to do this job. I live just off the M6 J35 (South Cumbria)

Thanks for the replies
I have a friend in the USA & he purchased one off eBay over there for me so hopefully as long as it doesn’t get lost in the post I am sorted.
Thanks Dell

Thank you for the kind words Peter, we are probably old school, we will help out if we can… I am glad you are now sorted @d.allum, the Roger Installer will be obsolete very shortly, as The Roger On 3, now has unlimited licenses, I believe The Roger Table Mic 3 is the same, both will give you unlimited Type 02 licenses, but personally, I would baulk at the £1300 or so price tag from Connevans, if you sign the VAT waver, I think they are around £1600 for the Roger On 3 with VAT? Anyway, a heavy price tag for something that would cost under a hundred quid to make! Cheers Kev ![]()

Obsolete because the unlimited license devices can transfer licenses to aids without the need to recover them back through the installer? Not sure exact what the installer does other than that but is seems OP could also have found someone with a newer Roger device to provide a license?

I already have the 2 cubes & now I have the Roger installer coming I can transfer the licenses from cubes to aids & back to cubes for when I get new aids, I can’t justify the cost of the things with unlimited licenses & anyway why would anybody want unlimited licenses we only have 2
.

Yeah @user490, tis exactly this… Prior to Roger On 3, you had to buy 2 Roger X receivers for each set of hearing aids, depending on what type (03 or 02) you required, type 02 around £550 each new, type 02 were classed as “Educational” therefore more expensive but they worked all Roger devices! Type 03, were around £350 each, these were more selective on which Roger devices they worked with! Phonak in their infinite wisdom, were extremely vague on what was required, IMO, I believe this was primarily designed to fleece the end user out of their hard earned cash! A Roger Installer only performs 2 purposes, to add or remove each individual license from the Roger X Receiver into their hearing aid slot, there are 2 license slots in each Phonak hearing aid, one 03, and one 02…All this sounds very confusing, it is in actual fact a very simple procedure, it takes under 5 minutes to transfer licences in each aid… If you managed to buy 3rd party Roger X receivers, you then had to find an Audiologist or with a Roger X Installer, more money! This was a minefield of ifs, buts and maybes, the Roger X Receivers could be empty if bought 2nd hand, any Roger X Receivers with a serial numbers below (1744 Edit) will not work, they were outdated! In almost every instance “End” users hadn’t a clue, and Phonak liked to keep them that way! To add further confusion, if you knew the process, and if my memory serves me correctly, you could extract up to 10 licenses from a single Roger On In, by using a certain procedure, with Roger Upgrader 1.27, but that’s another story! And many of us did just that on here, with the kind help of @Zebras

I have edited this post, I was getting confused myself, easily done where Roger is concerned, especially so, if you haven’t used it for a while, I haven’t used the Roger Upgrader, for approximately 18 months… Cheers Kev ![]()

I have 8 pairs of Phonaks now, and have exhausted all my licenses. However, I hardly ever use a Roger device now, as I’ve gradually improved how I self programme. I had a Roger Pen, but moved to the RogerOn. I also have RogerSelect and Roger TableMic II iN, with zero licenses left. Kev, the number is 1744 I believe

I have a new Roger Installer to sell if anybody wants it. I bought it years ago, never used it and never will. I think I paid $100.

Thank you for that information Peter, god knows where I plucked that number from? I will amend my previous post accordingly… Cheers Kev ![]()

Unless you have very old Phonak hearing aids the Roger On iN (v1,2 or 3) can be used to transfer licenses and new free licenses can be downloaded to it using the free software available on the Phonak web site. Roger On iN’s are not as cheap on Ebay as they used to be but are still available. I suspect that is why the installer is very rare.

When I asked in Geers Poland about cost of transferring licenses, they behave like they don’t know what I am saying about
That was in two very distant big cities.
And Geers is Phonak’s official representative in Poland.

Hi @raylock1, Roger Installer has never been freely available, they were issued to Audiologists & , and rarely ever available to Joe Blogs, well apart from the odd one miraculously appearing on eBay… Most people in general, had little idea of there existence, or up until they tried to use their new Roger On V1, Select, Table Mic or whatever Roger Device they had, only to discover, they didn’t work without licenses, it was a con, pure and simple… A money making con, the hook was buying the Roger , Phonak was very vague in in their hearing aid blurbs, saying each hearing aid had Roger Direct, this was true, unfortunately they neglected to say Roger Direct needed to be activated via a Roger X Receiver (type 03 around £350 new each, so about £700 for the pair) or (type 02 around £550 each & £1100 the pair) yeah, you could have bought just one Roger X Receiver as I did back in 2019 or 2020, but you needed that sound streaming through both ears for Roger to work effectively! The second hand market was the place to hunt, and bargains could be had, but only if you had the Roger X Installer, and finding one was a major problem, but where there is a will, there is a way
then came Roger On In, and Select In, we discovered through @Zebras kind help on here, using Roger Updater 1.27, you could squeeze 10 licenses from one Roger On In or Select In, now that was a game changer, you could pick up a Select In via eBay for under £200, with the battery knackered, Change the battery yourself with a little soldering, I put slightly larger batteries in, to give me more runtime, the Select In installed the license itself, you then had a newish Roger Select In, with potentially 10 licenses, I have a couple of Select Ins, both still run perfect, with hardly used batteries, and approximately 10 sets of licenses, more than I will ever need! I still have my Roger Installer, 4 x type 02 Roger X Receivers & 2 x 03 Receivers, I know they are basically obsolete, but I like to keep them, they are part of my journey… Cheers Kev ![]()

Great history lesson @kevels55 . I was still with Costco during most of that. I do have a set of 02 licenses that came installed in a set of trial P90’s that I bought but I don’t have anything that requires 02 licenses. Best, Ray

I have several type 02 Roger Devices, 6 off the top of my head, 3 are the exact same though, they were £40 each, so I bought all 3 Roger Inspiro’s, I believe, they cost Around £1400 each, they are still on sale today! They still work well… The thing that gets me Ray, the Roger System was developed by the research team at Sonova for the American Military, namely Seal Team 6, they wanted an effective encrypted radio systems, that was exceptionally good in loud noise, hence the military name Roger…The American Military bought and paid for all this R&D, Sonova asked if they could use some of the R&D to make Assistive Listening Devices for the , the military agreed… So, all the R&D costs were effectively paid for by the US Milatary, and Phonak since the R&D was a freebie, could easily have sold their Roger Devices at a knockdown price, not a bit of it, they bumped up the price! Cheers Kev ![]()

My two 02 cubes cost me £40 for both so compared to the other things that have licences that was a bargain they are supposedly new & unused but until my Roger installer turns up I can’t check
but paid through PayPal so have 30 days to make a claim if needed.

Thank you @danka, I am doing okay
I appear to be a lot more active, which is a good thing, I am a 70 year old in a couple of months time, building a shed at the moment, I would upload an image, but it’s almost impossible to do so, with the image restrictions of this site! Yesterday, I was up on my workshop roof, repairing a horrendous leak, assisted by my wife (she’s 65!) But perhaps a little foolish given my balance problems, needs must and we do what’s required, as sometimes common sense takes a back seat! @d.allum £40 is an excellent price, well done you! Cheers Kev ![]()

I am a 70 year old in a couple of months time,
I’ve wondered how old you are. I too stay busy and put common sense on the shelf and do things I shouldn’t. Have hurt myself more than once still acting like I am younger. My wife and I are a little older than you. We both are very active but it’s me that deals with heavy objects and tall ladders.
All this reading about Roger mics reminds me of @Zebras. She was the one that taught me so many things about Roger devices years ago. Thankfully I do not need or use any remote mics since bilateral .
