Interesting. Have you never felt the need to use the MiniMic2+ or RogerOn+attached receiver to the sound processor?

I must find the topic about differences between RogerX 02 vs. 03. For now, I have licence transferred to the old Phonak Audéo Paradise hearing aid. And I have old Roger Select V1 (with failed battery, unable to charge) and still working RogerOn V1 (non-In :disappointed_face:).

Fortunately, Spheric Speech in Noise program with occluded ear canal works great.

@kevels55, it’s a pleasure to read your interesting stories! Be careful for injuries, though. One of main causes of death is fracture of the femoral neck after a fall, specifically not the fracture itself, but complications associated with it (immobilization, loss of muscle mass and, therefore, difficulties returning to normal life, thrombosis, etc.)

I used the Roger devices back when I had hearing aids and really needed to get the up. With that is not the case. Granted I am retired and no job needing to hear in critical places. Mics can sure be handy but they are just another device to deal with having hearing loss.

Thank you Rick, I have all the safety equipment I need, I am for my sins a former Scaffolding Foreman, I have my own Scaffolding, but out of quickness, I will avoid using it, to get the job done immediately, if not sooner! I have come off the ladder on more than one occasion, fortunately not too much damage was done, but it has been a while since I have had any accidents, I am very wary of ladders for obvious reasons, they are always tied off…

I thought I was the only person in the 70’s that did silly things, I kissed the pavement while on holiday for our 50th wedding anniversary back in June, damaged my hands, knees, shoulder, chin & my pride & although everything else has healed my left hand ( left handed ) & left knee still giving me problems so when I do something I shouldn’t ( quite often ) wife gives me grief.

The reason for wanting to get to use the Roger pen is that I restore antique torsion clocks but most people know them as Anniversary clocks & the tick on them is very very quiet so as I have the pen in box never used it made sense to be able to use it but in hindsight it would probably have been cheaper to get a timetrax but then I never have been the one to take the easy route hence restoring torsion clocks as most clock makers won’t touch the because they can be frustrating at times, the picture is of a 1000 day torsion clock will run for 3 years on a single wind.

Yeah Rick, I still use some Roger Devices, mainly the Select and Table Mic 2, but to be honest, I get bye with my Naida Lumity 90’s in most instances, it’s quite rare for me to be in a noisy environment nowadays, or since retirement, but occasionally I will break them out, IMO, Table Mic 2 is probably the “crème de la crème” of Roger devices, for sheer clarity? They are extremely expensive new, but you can pick them up relatively cheaply on eBay, you can also link them, I am fortunate enough to have 2… Cheers Kev :wink:

I was seriously considering retirement 5 years ago because of hearing loss. Roger stuff didn’t change my life but it definitely helped me from changing my life.

Just for your knowledge - hearing aid is necessary noy only to “just listen someone’s speech”. It also provides brain stimulation, which constantly, “on the go” trains it, decreasing the risk of dementia.

I also fight with myself to wear & even when I am not going to talk with anyone or listen something.

Thank you @Bimodal_user for your concern, but there isn’t much need. I am fairly dementia aware, I am always up to something, whether that’s reading, posting on here, making stuff in my workshop, problem solving or researching online, my interests are wide and varied, I am always up to something, I play a certain card games, at expert level, which involves a lot of card counting, against my M4 iPad, out of around 5000 games played, my win ratio is exactly 47%, according to my stats… I play every day, I find it relaxing :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I am for my sins, type 2 diabetic, I was also diagnosed with Clinical Anxiety in 2017, directly after my first bout of Sepsis, I got Sepsis again in 2021… Anxiety has a detrimental effect on my sleep pattern, diabetes creates constant tiredness, I monitor my blood sugar & heart rate closely, I am doing fine, I try to fight the tiredness, it’s a constant battle, beta blockers help my symptoms greatly… Cheers Kev :wink:

I’m in a similar situation, although most days I live alone, so don’t bother putting my aids in, until I either want to go out, or watch TV. I talk to myself often, usually to scold myself, for things I should know better at 66. I’m also Type2 Diabetic, although it’s pretty much under control with metformin. I did have a mini stroke 3 years ago though, which blood sugar is likely to have been a major factor (it makes the blood sticky). The readings were high in hospital. I now swallow tablets as a new career. Thankfully I can make it down the pub to wash it down with proper liquid. Sadly, now on 2 occasions, I’ve struggled to make it back :grinning_face:

I’m also aware of dementia, and that lack of meaningful communications can maybe bring it on quicker. I check myself with regular puzzles to keep myself sharp.

Yeah Peter, keeping yourself sharp mentally is a good thing, although washing down Metformin with copious amounts of lager or beer, might be considered as counterproductive, but each to there own :rofl: :joy: :rofl: My type 2 diabetes is mostly controlled, with the occasional blip, for no apparent reason… Like you, we both play 8 Ball League Pool in the winter time, which also requires you to have a certain tactical awareness in order to defeat opponents! I am still playing 2 leagues, Inverness Premier, and Dingwall League, I got Joint Player of the Year, the season before last in Dingwall, and I was ranked in the top 20 this season in Inverness, (63% win ratio) so I am still playing at a reasonable level, Inverness is a tough league, with quite a few Internationalist in its Ranks, not so long ago, we had 3 former world amateur champions, 2 have now retired, and one unfortunately passed away… Time waits for no man, and age takes its toll, consistency levels aren’t what they once were, but I am still hard to beat… Cheers Kev :wink:

I’m so glad you’re still playing. My game has improved this year after watching, and hopefully learning from, videos of Shaun Murphy.

On the Diabetes note, a friend of mine, who drinks a substantial amount of “Lancaster Blonde” real ale, wears one of those attachments on his arm. If he has an afternoon on it, his blood sugar levels reduce to the point he needs a mars bar. If he tries something else, like cider, they go up through the roof!

All good fun. I shall be trying that medicine this afternoon.

I see a lot of us older ones have type 2 diabetes I have always had a very sweet tooth had lots of sugary foods even 2 spoons in tea but all the sweeteners I tried made the tea taste bitter but now I use sugarly by canderel because I find it tastes just the same although it’s possible that as I lost both taste & smell after catching covid my taste has changed but I think they are back now, it also made my hearing worse.

I am 70’s, using Xceed 1 and Phonak Naida as spare. Using Naida helps to hear the car signal sound because of the high frequency compression. Wait until both is gone, then I might try Naida Lumity BTE.

Hi Dell… Try this stuff “Splenda” the closest sweetener I have come across, that almost tastes of sugar, it’s very good, I have been using it for years… No Aspartame, which is always a good thing! Aspartame is quite harmful to humans, according to some studies I have read… Cheers Kev😉

Thank you Peter :grin: I believe we are all small chemical factories, with different chemical makeups, so what we consume, effects us differently as individuals… I recently read studies on Cinnamon, how it’s good for the blood, I only use Ceylon Cinnamon, apparently it is known for reducing blood sugar, cholesterol and other cardiac benefits… I mix about 3 small pinches in my porridge every 2nd day, tastes delicious to me… I just use the microwave version out of convenience for making my porridge, I mix it half milk, and half oat milk around 180ml in total… If you like Cinnamon, you’ll love this! I’ve been using Candarel in my tea/coffee since diagnosis. It takes the edge off, but doesn’t particularly taste sweet. As Kev says, it has Aspartine in it. My diabetic zoom meeting said it can be addictive.
