Information from the FCC confirms51 the new products is called Oticon Reveal and will be in a MiniRITE form factor. Only one level of technology is mentioned in the documentation that I’ve read so far.
H-P, Thanks for posting that. I did not have any idea that the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) had anything to do with hearing aids. I do have a question: under Exhibits in the link provided, under Users_Manual the booklet states it applies to the Oticon Verit. And I could not find any reference to Origin Reveal in the link.
Hearing aid manufacturers have to apply for a labelling exemption for their devices as there isn’t room on the devices for the physical IDs so you’ll always find new products being listed there before a public launch.
Oticon CROS RE helps people with single-sided deafness experience a richer, more complete world of sound – capturing sound from the poorer side and delivering it to the better ear so you can fully participate in all of life’s magical moments. What’s more, it is rechargeable, and shares its design with Oticon Reveal™, Oticon Intent™, and Oticon Play SI™, allowing you to use the same charger.
From the details given so far this is either tantalising or a massive disappointment and I can’t work out which it is. Looking at Oticon’s recent history of releases they all seem to be incrementable. Going from the OPN to the More, then the Real and then Intent. The OPN a major, groundbreaking release, the others, minor improvements in chipset, some tweaks (wind noise, accelerometer) and connectivity ().
So where does this stand? Two new systems, integrated to bring improvements in comprehension/Clarity. This end result seems underwhelming. However - 2 new AI systems? They say a brand new platform - I assume that means chipset. Outperforming competitors by delivering 25dB more gain. That doesn’t sound like a minor release. However, no improvements in SNL is claimed; This is either a dark horse or a massive disappointment.
What worries me is the release statement about going down a different path to deal with noise management. Claiming that approaches that scrub noise entirely with AI are one sided. Did they raise the white flag here and go in a different direction because they could not match what Phonak has done with the Spheres? If so, it is very frustrating, as this is the one area that they needed to catch up in; at least that is the area I have had most difficulty in with the Intents - very loud noise situations where there are over 20 people or so. The Spheres can handle this, the Intents sadly, can’t.
Of course, of you are a die hard Oticonian you will upgrade or maybe skip this release and wait 2 years for the next one. But if you are a Phonak wearer, is there enough here to entice you to switch? Not sure. Cannot wait for some anecdotal reports.
Were you able to try them? I am very curious how they will do for a moderate to severe loss. Oticon Intent have been very successful so if they can have a noticeable improvement on that, that sounds great. If we’re talking marketing material, I was watching the Resound Sensia annoucement video, and I realized I had seen this before. I went and watched the Resound Vivia announcement and it was nearly identical. Also groundbreaking in all the same ways.
they are using the narrative of brain hearing in that noise is also essential for good neural code. It is consistent with their claims through out the years that is not only speech enhancement and a natural listening does require background noise. Is this instrument substantially different from intent - they are claiming the majyority of intent users prefer this … I would like to see it, the President of the group has upgraded their sales guidance they certainly think they have a winner. Time will tell, somehow feels like a move like from MORE to REAL .
RICs are getting more and more powerful , many people that could only use BTEs in the past now use RICs (example : Infinios with UP receivers ).
Companies have been releasing BTEs recently : Oticon Verit BTE, Widex Allure BTE , Resound Enzo IA among others . And Sept may bring a new Naida . So it’s not that there aren’t modern BTE options available.
But it seems that no modern one matches the Xceed when it comes to power
