Your preferred hearing aid for high frequency hearing

Like to hear others personnel experience with your hearing aids if you have high frequency hearing loss? I currently have phonak lumity life. Previously had oticon opn s1. I didn’t care for oticon sound. Tried many different domes and programming changes with my audiolgist. Took a lot of programming adjustments to get the lumity working good. I have custom ear molds. Which I prefer to domestic. Just general information get my aids from the . I will not be going elsewhere. I’m not brand loyal. Just find the variety of people’s preference interesting. I might try starkey omega next. I have had starkey z series in the past. I’m in no rush. Especially since newer updated or new line of hearing aids are due at the end of the month.

My hearing loss, like yours, is in the higher frequencies. I have just switched from Starkey Evolvs to the Omega 24’s I liked the Evolvs, but I can certainly hear the difference in the new Omegas. My audiologist has been in business for thirty five years and he himself wears these aids.

if you get the chance I would recommend you try out the Omegas.

Of course, the usual caveat is worth mentioning…a hearing aid is only as good as how it is programmed.

Definitely agree. A good audiolgist is priceless. Started to dabble in self-programming. It’s quite interesting. Of course I’m not any good at it yet.

I’ve used Oticon, Phonak, Signia, Rexton, and Widex, and all of these brands, depending on the tech level, can handle ski-slope high frequency loss (lower tech aids may have some programming limitations).

I haven’t noticed any major differences in how they perform at high frequencies, except for , maybe, Widex, which tends to be more prone to feedback due to its focus on natural sound and a more conservative feedback manager.

It really depends on how the specialist programs your aids – the magic of a is all about the programming.

Sound preference is highly personal, and what works for others might not work for you. Try out different options if you can.

The only issues top tier in any hear aid. They provide all major brands. I dont recall the trial period. Three months maybe more. I’ll probably ask for starkey omega. But you can switch if needed. Best of my knowledge they don’t have any to try of a bit then decide. Or at least the VA clinc I go to. Also not sure what they do with the one’s that people return. The hearing aid contract renewal for them are around October and March. To separate times two be able to get the newest tech.

Thank you for your service! The trial period is 5 months from the date of the fitting.

No, they don’t have spares, and you may be able to make a valid case for a b/up pair., it depends on staff.

They turn the used devices over to the Denver depot for spare parts, or back to the mfg.

Contracts are May and November, I think.

Have you not seen better performance in higher frequencies with Oticon? However, you have relatively milder hearing loss, you indeed may not have a difference during fitting particularly for you.

Personally I found that Infinio Sphere with UP receiver has good high frequency amplification, but I think that probably Oticon strongest 105 receiver is better, especially in Oticon Reveal wjth new antifeedback algorithm.

I wish they would actually tell us what feedback suppression algorithm they use. Widex uses frequency shifting, which they explain somewhere. I haven’t had a chance to try Widex yet, I’m curious.

AFAIK everybody else seems to be to simply dial down the gain temporarily when feedback happens. And the fitting software won’t allow higher gain settings in the first place. Both approaches result in not getting the necessary amplification.

Oticon claims that

Reveal Optimizer™ delivers 30% faster feedback prevention and four times greater precision, boosting headroom and fitting stability and providing up to 25 more gain than top competitors.

To me that sounds like they are able to dial down the gain more quickly and more selectively. Because of that, the fitting software can potentially allow for more gain, relying on the fact that the new Reveal aids will be able to reduce gain faster and more precisely when required.

That’s probably a decent band-aid. Custom molds or more might be even better though.

If you like the looks of the new aids that come out, you can hope they are on the new contract in Nov. When Infinio came out, they had the infinio-90-r but not the spheres until the next contract update in the spring — in May.

For me the fitting depends on how I programmed the aids.

I increased my highs above what the fitting formula prescribed to match a previous I had plus a test, where I played sounds at different frequencies and adjusted the gains until I was able to hear them. I found the gains prescribed by the Oticon VAC+ plus NaL-NA2 low at high frequencies .

I’m not sure what people mean when they say a certain aid is better at high frequencies : is it that some aids can’t reach the adequate values , distortion at high frequencies , more natural sound, feedback issues, frequency shifting , clipping?

Simple: someone with severe hearing loss in high frequencies can get adequate gain from particular hearing aid+receiver+earpiece.

Not usually limited in terms of frequency response. Usually a reduction of Ai controls, noise management features and directional functionality. The OP’s loss could be fairly well met with a two channel system with an adjustable crossover: modern 20-30 channel aids can easily do this even in their most basic guise.

Iv only had chance to try the resound nexia 9n60s with hp receiver and custom moulds i have high frequency loss 60k around 90db and 8k around 100db any idea it my hearing aids are capable of this and what kind of settings I should use like the target ruel iv only tried + so far in smartfit software
