I'm seven weeks into activation after bilateral surgery. I can understand enough of the conversations around me to be able to go out alone to the store without my wife. Everything is still very high pitched. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get past the high pitch?
You are doing great. Guessing you had high frequency hearing loss for a long time. My highs were the last thing to understand after activation. That took me much longer to get any understanding in the highs though I did get most speech understanding within a couple or three months.
You probably know this but each of us is very different concerning our hearing. With we each have our own journeys that can vary in so many ways.
I am happy with my , but didn't get this degree of proficiency after 13 years 😂😅 However, after last mapping 3th Aug it is considerably better, but still not enough in my case.
Back to the topic - it requires much time. As @Raudrive said, everyone is different. Typically, people need at least 6 months to understand speech with CI, but I'm not sure if it applies to getting used to high frequencies.
However that frequencies are essentially to understand speech, especially in noise, so I recommend get a little tired. After all, rehabilitation is somewhat a work. I have even +6 steps for high frequencies in my Nucleus Smart app.
Thanks to those who replied. Encouragement from someone who's been there is greatly appreciated. Yes I had high frequency lose for a long time. I go back 8/31 for another mapping session. At least now I know that what I'm experiencing is normal. Thanks again.
