I notice that one can see the following categories on desktop.

  1. Hearing Aids
  2. Hearing Aid Self-Fitting ()
  3. Hearing Loss
  4. All categories

This is not visible on a mobile phone. I don't use topics and replies. I just stick with All. So, I am wondering if it would make sense for Categories to be shown at this level - All and Categories instead of All Topics Replies? For myself, having Categories is more valuable than Topics and Replies next to All. I agree that you don't want to show the four categories listed above on a mobile phone because space is at a premium, so a Categories button here would be much more suitable on phone, but would also work well on desktop!

Second, I think it would be better to replace the four categories shown on the desktop with options that are not subcategories as one could have a categories link on both desktop and phone as mentioned above. I feel it would make more sense to rather highlight areas of the website that are not q&a forum discussion categories?

I am thinking more of the following option which I have taken from the existing categories page:

Audiologists and Hearing Aid Providers - This could list all audios who are registered on this forum, their location and a link to their company website. They provide a lot of support on this forum and their expertise contributes massively to the success of this forum. I feel, that they should be made more prominent on the website.

Classifieds - If this is a direction that Hearing Tracker Forum want to go down, providing that there are no legal issues which prompted places like Ebay to stop selling hearing aids etc.

Scholarly Articles, News, Press Releases , Announcements & Surveys - Almost like a weekly/monthly newspaper read and nothing to do with Questions and Answers

Promotions and Online Sellers - This might be a good place for companies to advertise their sales, offers etc as long as it doesn't end up being a flea market flogging everything.

All of the above are not Q&A forum discussion categories but rather pointing users to useful information such as News, Scholarly Articles (which I would be interested in) or finding a local audio near you. I feel that a Category button next to All would be more useful to filter the forum for whatever discussion groups you are interested in?

Just something to consider in the future. I just personally find the listed categories on the left redundant and I think something similar to my suggested links above is far more useful.

PS: Can you please make the editing window expand the whole page. The expand button does not really increase height of the message window so you can't read your entire post without constant scrolling. Thank you.

Edit. There is a bug that keeps changing my bold to ** text and then two more asterixes afterwards as you can see with classifieds which should show in bold. I am not sure why the bold works sometimes and not other times?

I can probably make it possible for you to customize the category links on desktop.

For now, categories link is available in the little 3-line hamburger menu in the top bar.

I'm not sure what's going on with your editor window, mine goes nearly full height of the screen. Can you send a screenshot?

Testing bold.

Well that is bizarre.

First, my classifieds word now shows in bold, which it would not earlier, despite changing

Second, the message window size seems to be a lot higher now than it was before. If it happens again, I will take a screenshot. Thanks

Actually, you found a real bug with bolding. It was caused by people highlighting a space before or after the selected text. I won't bore you with the technical details. The good news is, it's fixed, and should not happen again :slight_smile:
