I have Phonak paradise P90 and I usually use them for streaming my phone, for calls and sometimes music.
Is there a smart watch that works with HAs? Not talking about the main iPhone or Samsung brands, can't afford that. Thinking more something like this: I'm in the UK BTW.
Lack of smartwatch support is one of my main complaints about hearing aids. Im a Pixel Watch wearer and an Oticon user, and I'm out of luck. I even volunteered to write a watch app for Oticon. As you might expect, no response.
Oticon used to have support for IFTTT, but they've since dropped that support. When it existed, it was clunky and slow, but it did work. For example you could mute your from the IFTTT app on your watch.
Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't even really know who to ask about it. I guess I could buy a couple on Amazon and then return them if they don't work. There must be someone with a watch that works.
Here is my take. If there is a smart watch that would control Phonak hearing aids, the hearing aids would have to be disconnected from the My Phonak app. Here's why.
I have the official Phonak remote control. I can't use this unless my aids are disconnected from the My Phonak app. There are two channels in bluetooth, one for control and one for audio. While the Phonak app can be connected to multiple audio devices at one time, the aids can only be connected to one control device at any one time.
I was disappointed to find this out. I have the buttons on my aids disconnected because every time I wear a hat, it interferes with the buttons. I wanted to be able to change volumes/change programs without pulling out my phone every time.
I wear a Samsung watch (paired with my Samsung S23 Ultra) to answer/disconnect phone calls and control Spotify for music streaming.
Perhaps, but I know in the Android world it's possible for a watch app to send a message to the phone to carry out an action. For example, the could be paired to the phone, I tap the "mute" button on a hypothetical watch app, the watch app sends a message to the phone, the phone carries out the action on the HAs. Easy peasy.
In essence this is how IFTTT worked, but the round trip seemed to go to the cloud because it was really slow.
So this is for the control case. The streaming case would likely be different. In that case (to stream from watch to HAs) I agree that you'd need to pair your aids to your watch.
@e4andy what use cases are you aiming for? To be honest, I don't have a lot of hope. The big names don't seem to have much watch support for HAs, so I'm guessing the experience on a less well-known brand is not likely to be better.
Very excited now. Just bought a Samsung Galaxy Ultra 2025 smart watch and I'm listening to Spotify in my Phonaks. Thats good enough for me as it means I'll be able to make and receive phone calls too. Not to worried about using the Phonak app, the programs don't make a great deal of difference. Bluetooth works nicely though. Thrilled!
