"I’m not a fan of reducing sound leaks with gain reductions or feedback manager when the whistling is chronic . I think this is just a band-aid that alters the sound and the effectiveness of the programming."
(I can't seem to figure out how to lift a salient quote out of posts and then reply to them, augh... so excuse my copy/paste/italics here)
That is a very refreshing take on the issue! For years, my audis would run Feedback Mgt to reduce the leaky-squeaky, and it worked. But to your point, the sound was compromised. It seemed that the crispness (high freq?) was lost so it'd take that critical edge off speech comprehension.
When I redently got my Phonak Pirates back from service, I asked if we should run Feedback Mgt as per usual, and my audi asked, "Why? If it sounds good, let's see if this works." So now I DO have occasional feedback - mainly if I put a hand up to cover my ears. But I'm liking the tiny, noticeable improvement in speech comprehension with these little 312s. Pro'ly underpowered for my cinderblocks, but there is SO MUCH to love about these aids!
