I happily wore multiple generations of Bernafon ’s until Costco stopped carrying them a few years ago. When I saw Sam’s was offering the Encantas, I decided to give that a try. My hearing test was done at the store in a video session. An unlicensed helper at the store did the physical part, and a specialist I had chosen from a short list handled the technical part, remotely. I opted for a person listed as a Dr of Audiology. There were no big surprises on the test, and we ordered the HA’s. Had another video session at the store for the fitting, and then shortly later a follow-up for further adjustments.
Overall the process worked surprisingly well for me at this store. The hearing test itself was similar to, although maybe not quite as detailed, as those I had taken at Costco. All sessions were with the same audiologist, the one I had chosen. I found her to be both competent and personable, and she lives in California. All sessions started and ended on time. By contrast, all of my interaction at Costco had been in person with licensed fitters, no audiologists. Some of the fitters have been reasonably knowledgeable, and others, less so. Some Costco appointments were timely and others not. Like Costco, Sam’s provides the needed domes and at no charge.
I’m still deciding on the Encantas, but that is a subjective issue. I feel confident that the person I am working with now, through Sam’s, will help me to get the best I can get from those hearing aids, at less cost than any other way I know of to acquire them.
