With many people rejecting slop along with AI in general, I'm beginning to question hearing aid manufacturer's persistent usage of the term AI in their marketing.

Better hearing in noise is the #1 priority for most hearing aid users and the state of the art has been relatively stagnant for a while when it comes to better hearing in noise. seems to be the first innovation since beamforming mics to significantly improve things.
I get your point, but think in this case, people may be more willing to embrace the marketing angle. I could be wrong.

I'm actually curious about the claims: what factor of AI denoising is everyone 'happy' with, ignoring the actual claims?
Is it environmentally/directionally/loss/ dependent? Or is there a 'ballpark' figure that suits for the majority of cases as it represents the best trade-off between the original signal integrity and 'AI enhancement'.

I'm wondering whether it may be more prudent to use specific terms like deep neural network rather than using the moniker, especially in product names. It seems like Starkey is hedging its bets by using both. Machine learning has been used for hearing aid development for decades now. I think a lot more education is required in this space.

is it actually "" or machine learning? i understand the difference to be "AI" can update in real time via network but machine learning is trained. therefore hearing's aids don't really have "AI".

Machine learning is a subset of . (all machine learning is AI but not all AI is machine learning).
is a subfield of machine learning.
Per IBM: "The easiest way to think about AI, machine learning, deep learning and neural networks is to think of them as a series of AI systems from largest to smallest, each encompassing the next"
Using the AI term, in this case, is not incorrect but, as @Hearing_Potential wrote, it could be more useful if a more specific term is used but, for a hearing aid, I am not sure what is the benefit of being more specific . Marketing, after all, is about augmenting sales, not being technically detailed (some tech people like me care).
These days, if you don't include "AI" in marketing, you are behind. I've seen many comments here saying "Oh, these aids have AI and the other one does not ... "

So I am really torn on which aids I should try, been talking to hearing direct and they are suggesting that I try the new Oticon Reveals, and my audiologist suggest I try the new Starkey Omega +. Any real time life reviews of the AI+ yet? They are both about the same cost with hear direct.2

Possibly too new for anyone to have experience. Costco may get + equivalent eventually but definitely will not get Reveal (even a 9060 would not be Reveal). Perhaps that's a factor.
