United Health Care hearing aids

It sounds kind of like what the VA is doing with HA buy in quantity, but they have their audiologist program and do adjustments to save money. The insurance co. is also buying in quantity but then they are sending the person the HA and having them do their own adjustments. Sounds like one way to cut cost for the vast majority of wearers, but I could see problems for people with severe or tricky losses that even the audi has problems getting dialed in.
This is not what the is doing. They are fitting the patients with quality product, some are custom made, but all work is done by a professional. The only way the VA is saving money, is by negotiating volume discounts with reputable hearing aid companies.

I just talked to hiHealth Innovations today and the first thing I was asked is if I have had seen a specialist (doctor) and had a hearing test in the last 12 months. I have, so I was asked to fax or mail my results along with my personal information.
I spent some time on hHI’s website later and they have letters stating as to what their goals are. I’m guessing that they’ve read the negative comments being made on the Internet and are (now) crossing their t’s and dotting their i’s.
I was told that since I have the ‘Deluxe’ ($37 a month) my copay will be $150- for behind the ears and $180- for in the ear canal type. It dawned on me later that that is just for one ear. Still if I can start hearing again, at least reasonably well, for $300-$360 I’ll be a happy camper.
I’ll just throw out that when I met with the audiologist I stopped him in his tracks before he gave me his input and told him that I have no problem hearing people talking, it’s just that I can’t understand them. He gave me a pretty decent explanation in layman’s terms as to what is happening.

@Soonerman42 said:I just returned from a United Health Care meeting where it was shown, depending on the program, that hearing aids will be covered with 0 deductible or $360 deductible per aid. Aids will be shipped to insured’s home from a hearing aid company United Health Care apparently now owns. Has anyone else encountered this or have more knowledge of it?
Let me know when Humana does this. I know I can’t get free hearing aids forever.

Well, I just had a client who called me to tell me he has been wearing his United Healthcare hearing aids for a month now. He says he likes them and is so far happy with the service. The only problem I have with the whole UHC scheme is the online hearing test. I just think this is wrong, on SO many levels! Why not require a person to get a test from a qualified provider, or medical clearance from a physician. This just doesn’t seem to be a reputable or long-term method of doing business by alienating the entire medical community… thoughts?
hearing aid girl,
I got my aid online from HiHealth through UHC and I did not take A online hearing test. They did require I go to an audiologist to have a done and they did require that I get medical clearance from my .The only thing I did online was put the audiogram results in.Then next day they called me back with their recommendation.
Just thought i’d let you know.

where do you come by this silly information??

Well mic, I’m glad to see you are up to date on reading the Forum post. What I was saying in that 3 month old post was the buys hearing aids in large quantities to get a big break from the manufacturers and then have the VA audiologist program the ’s and do the adjustments. Perhaps that is why it takes months to get the HA’s from the VA ( one person I know took 2 1/2 months and another will be 3 months when she gets her’s) either their backlog is huge, they have to few people working in the audiology dept. at the VA or they are waiting until they have enough to get the best price. Is this what you are referring to as silly info? If not enlighten me as to how the VA works regarding how they buy their HA’s at such great prices and why patients have to wait so long to get them unless the above scenario isn’t how it works. I know you can explain it since you are all knowing and sorta the “Carnac the Magnificent” of the Hearing Aid Forum. Perhaps you can’t explain it though since you came out of the medical industry and the thought of buying in bulk to cut cost would never occur to you. Maybe you need to read a little faster since you are 3 months behind.

-
who else would program aids provided by the ?
-
total crap you have any idea how many aids the VA buys in a year? they don’t need to wait and bundle.
-
comparing the VA to how UHC does business is silly.

Mike Cartwright(?, lucyandethelxx) last Christmas got them in 5 weeks from day 1 to walking out with them over Christmas/New Years holidays). From my hearing test until I was fitted was 3 weeks. you don’t know what you are talking about. Maybe some other Vet would like to add how long it took them.

From my 1st visit in their door to today’s fitting was just about 5 weeks. And they apologized that ordinarily they would have had them in under 3 weeks but had Christmas AND New Years holidays slowing them down. I am STILL sitting here waiting for the VA POLICE to barge in and repossess my new hearing aids…
Congratulations! I’m very happy for you. If there is ONE group of individuals in this country that deserve the best of everything at little-no charge it’s our Veterans. You deserve everything they can give you and what’s more, you earned it by serving our country.
as for the rest of your smart mouth a$$hat post I not the one the resurrected the post. in fact I lobbied for locking old post. as far as all knowing it’s simply a matter of pulling your head out of your a$$ and using a browser. It ain’t rocket science. again you post you know someone who said that someone took 3 months for aids from the VA. I call pure BS. Are you in the VA system? go find your local VA hosp and walk around and ask a few of the old guys how long it took them to get the aids.
maybe Raymon from this recent post will keep it updated with his timeline and progress…

Well mic,
The 2 people I referred to I’m sure didn’t lie to me about how long it took to get their ’s from the in Palo Alto, CA, since I’m the one who talked them into trying the VA again after both were turned down the first time they tried to get HA’s from the VA. Person 1, got a BiCros with TVLink and ICom and it took 2 1/2 MONTHS to get them and he was the one who told me his audi at the VA told him they order in bundles to get the price they get from the manufacturers. Person 2, is still waiting for her HA’s and will get them the 2nd week of July which will be actually a little over 3 months since she saw the audi at the VA and I don’t think she is lying to me since she thanked me for getting her to go back to the VA and told me when she will get them. Also, the reason I told them to go back to the VA is because of what you posted months ago when you were at that time MIC SHU and you told someone the VA criteria had changed so thank you from them, they are happy campers!
I would hope that it wouldn’t take as long as the 2 people I know to get HA’s from the VA, but if they do bundle and you go in at the right time you could get them sooner if they are close to the target number to place the order. Or perhaps the VA in Palo Alto just works very slowly.
As for someone else programming VA hearing aids I didn’t mean that in the original post, what I was referring to is that it sounded like UHC was doing the same thing as the VA in purchasing HA’s except someone else was programming their HA’s. if you read that into it maybe I worded it incorrectly but hey everyone but you makes mistakes.
I also remember your post from several weeks ago chastising the person from resurrecting an old post and I find it humorous that you are basically doing the same thing, I think you have to much time on your hands and need to find a hobby. You have a history of rubbing people the wrong way with your biting commentary, so if you dish it out you should be able to take it. Unfortunately, I think you have caused some good people to drop out of the HAF because of how you either treated them or someone else. So get a hobby and remember if you can’t say something nice don’t say it at all.

so, kiss my a$$… well at least they always get the correct facts. and all of your information is BS. Again do your own research go down to your local VA Hosp look around the waiting rooms or cafe and ask the guys with hearings aids, lots of them have them, how long it took them and if they are happy. you’re right, I’m retired and have plenty of free time. My current hobby is jerking your chain and watching you cry. I’m sure you know how to use the ignore list if you can’t handle my post.
you need to man-up and get a pair… if a little reality in my forum posts make you cry or ZCT take’s his Omega Watch, his sports cars and his left wing BS about everything from dead babies, women or the sorry state of the US Healthcare system compared to his UK NHS and runs off. I say tough nuts he sure could dish it out but took his ball and ran when someone pushed back.

Ah Mic, you have such a way with words. As I said in Palo Alto’s it’s 2-3 months. I wasn’t talking about ZCT but several others, it’s interesting you realize your responsible for him leaving but are unaware of the others. May I suggest basket weaving or painting at the local community college? You need a hobby or at least some sensitivity training.

sensitivity training
or I could move to CA…
sure there were few other beside the ahole zct… that english aid guy that thought old folks like me shouldn’t worry too much about which aid because we wouldn’t be around that much longer. again another english guy who every chance he got would complain about US doesn’t do this or that.
I can’t take the credit for zct… I think his Siemens, Germany, Nazis rant is probably what did him in.
seems like if I wanted to learn how to be a bigger ahole I should move to England and if I wanted to be sensitive like you I could move to CA. it does kind of concern that that every time I bend over you are standing behind me… guess it’s a CA thing.

Mic,
I think you have a lot to offer it’s just the delivery thing that needs some work. I’m not standing behind you, I just think the sniping and name calling is not needed.

Just looking for an update; has anyone been fit with the UHC - HI Innovations devices? and how are they working out?
You’re ignoring this member’s posts.
IM Back doesn’t have any hearing and his hearing aids are low level chain store crap because he is to poor to get a real pair. He preys on everyone on this site because he has no life, he is mad at the world and blames them because he can’t hear. If you want to talk the talk IMBACK post your address and let’s see what happens when someone show’s up to kick your no spine ass. Please take your time and write a really long post back to me, I need to laugh at your sorry ass again. hugs and kisses.
If you want to know where I am I’m in Florida, Hernando county, I will give you my address if you would like to come visit me.

I’m also looking for an update, if we can get this thread back on track.
I have UHC insurance. Went to an in-network audiologist for my hearing evaluation. Then found out he’s not in-network for ’s. No one is.
I have to get my HA’s via mailorder from hi Health Innovations or Epic Hearing Healthcare. That seems like a bad idea but I really have no choice.
So, does anyone have any experiences with the above companies that they’d like to share?
You’re ignoring this member’s posts.
Very good results working with Epic, My Audiologist filled out their forms, faxed them in, the ’s came in, she set them up/fitting. Epic sent me a years supply of batteries.
My UHC is through GE, if that matters.

I also had a great experience with Epic. Originally, my audi’s office told me they weren’t in network with UHC. However, when I checked with Epic, I found out that they could provide my aids. The audi orders from Epic, Epic handles all the billing and paperwork, and then I picked up the aids at the audi’s office. Check with Epic to see if your audi is in network, if not, they will hook you up with one close by. If there isn’t one within 30 miles, then they may let you use your out of network audi.

Thanks for the quick replies. I’ve started the process with Epic Hearing.
Also, the hi Health Innovations website has been down for a couple days now. It appears to be a major crash or they’re out of business.
Thanks again!
