Several months ago I switched from thin tubes with power domes to thick tubes with custom earmolds. Since then, I’ve been having problems with pain. I get a painful red dent by the end of the day right where the front of the ear hook meets the tube, and I get what seems almost like an abrasion up behind my ear. I pretty much can’t wear glasses or sunglasses without feeling like my ears are being painfully shoved away from my head. I told my audi, who said the tubes were too long and adjusted them, but it hasn’t made any difference. The HAs themselves seem to be set up really high on my ear compared to where they used to sit.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I’d have thought I’d build up a little callus or something, but it’s just day after day of irritation.
Hi. This information may help you out. Did you audi did this procedure when he/she switches you from power dome to custom mold? I downloaded this from Bernafon website:
1 Place the measurement tool over the ear,
keeping the top line horizontal. With your eyes
at the same level as the ear, determine which
mark is closest to an imaginary line running
over the top of the ear canal. In this example,
the correct choice is size 2.
Power Molds will have a better fit if you
choose a slightly longer wire length than you
would when fitting a Power Dome. If the top
of the ear canal falls between two numbers on
the gauge, choose the higher number.
2 If the speaker unit wire is too long the hearing
instrument will fall back over the ear and the
microphones
will point vertically instead of
horizontally.
It is also unlikely that the receiver
wire will fit the contours of the ear correctly.
3 If the speaker unit wire is too short, it will
have a tendency to move out of the ear canal,
and the hearing instrument will lose stability
on the ear.
