Hearing aids returned after a trial period

Please can anyone tell me what happens to hearing aids that are returned as unwanted after a trial period?

I was about to return mine when I found that one must have dropped off and my puppy has chewed it. I haven’t paid for them and I’m wondering if I am going to have to. My house insurance won’t cover the cost.

If I knew that they would be discarded by the company, I would argue against paying, but if they are reused, then I guess I’ll need to pay up. Just wondering what I’m facing.

I think it is your bad luck that the dog chewed it up but I would think you need to return both regardless of what the disposition of the ’s are.
If above is the case, the dog will not digest the aid and it will be returned to you! Ugh!

Same thing happened to somebody on the Forum last year and they had to pay for the cost of the . So, if your going to be out the money, you might want to keep the aids, pay for them and get the one fixed using the damage part of the warranty.

Thanks Seb, I’ll bear that in mind, although there is no way that it could be fixed. I’ll have to find out if the warranty covers replacement of damaged aids. Not too hopeful though. I just wish I could find out what happens to the aids that are returned as unwanted.

What do you suggest Mike, superglue?

I think it’s time to walk in to the audi’s office and see what the options are. Also, I would invest in a Dry n Store and keep the ’s in it when not in your ears, once the lid is snapped shut I doubt the dog could open it.

and you wonder why you have to pay for aids before you get to trial them?

there are 2 places for hearing aids in your ears or in a storage box/recharger/dry&store.

As I said in my first post, the aid dropped out! It fell out and I hadn’t noticed. When I take them out, I put them in their box. Always. I’m certainly not stupid enough to leave an expensive piece of equipment in reach of my puppy!

I was hoping to go to the audi’s office armed with some knowledge, however that wasn’t to be. Apparently I will need to pay the cost price of the aid. The manufacturer will possibly waive the cost if I go on to purchase two aids after the trial period. I won’t know until I make the decision whether to but them or not. I certainly won’t be buying the open ear type which can fall out!

like already suggested… you need to go to your , come clean and see what options you have. you might find out he is smart enough to carry insurance on trial products.

Your experience is exactly why I went for an earmold with my ’s rather than an . Several friends who had open fit HA’s had lost them and not realized it until to late and never found the aid. One friend has three HA’s lost somewhere on his two acres and gave up and finally went with a micro mold and hasn’t lost them since. Last December, I fell off a roof and landed on my back and head and my HA’s were still in my ears, so even with a heavy impact they don’t fall out. Good luck with your audi, I hope he has insurance for the trial HA’s.
