Thanks, ksam, but I don’t think the app is Smart Remote. I would appreciate it, if you would check that for me when you get a chance. A PM would help get my attention. (Android"s ADD app not working for me!)
There are smart remote and smart connect apps. Smartconnect works with the smart connect but if I’m not wearing the device, the app converts to smart remote (I.e., it uses the tones)
The aids themselves need an external device to control volume. An iphone 5 or better or equivalent works. The phone clip + will alter volume and programs along with streaming and support for an android app.
That would make the cost still below the Trax. You may or may not think you then have an equivalent set of aids.
Hey ken, I have a 4s and it works 90% of the time. Sometimes I need yo close and relaunch the smart connect app and a couple times I needed to restart my 4s. Not sure if that’s an app issue or a 4s issue or a smart connect issue
Well keep a watch for the next OS version. The last few updates loaded the kitchen sink. It had stuff for phone/pad/pod that was useless to other products. They got smart and the next release will be specific and you might get an update out of it.
For those that have the Trax 42 with a TV program, how is it working for you? I have the Kirkland Signature 6.0, and really struggle with TV. The TV is loud enough, but I struggle with word recognition. The KS 6 does not have a TV program, but some have found success using the music program. I don’t really want to use a TV streamer. I’m 2 months into my KS6 trial (got them just before the Trax 42 was released), and was thinking of possibly switching to the Trax.
I started with the KS6 but switched to the Trax 42 after two weeks. I have the TV program and find that voices are clearer than when using the automatic program. Overall, the Trax 42 is better for speech than the KS6. It seems to be able to recognize speech and isolate it from background noise, whereas the KS6 would tend to amplify everything.
I have the trax and basically can’t hear TV. I can hear the news but can’t follow any shows without the closed captions Having said that, I’m still happy with the trax. Generally comprehend most conversations now.
Yesterday was the end of my first week with the Trax 42. Coincidentally, it also was the day my first set of batteries went dead. I’m actually very happy to get 7 days out of the batteries, because I wear my aids 17 or 18 hrs per day, and I have been making calls with my smart connect, streaming television, etc. all week as I tried out the new toy.
i am very pleased with the Trax 42 so far. A couple days ago they passed their first big test with flying colors. We had a water pumping/ hauling training session at the fire dept. Frequently I was standing near one or more Diesel engined fire trucks as they ran at high RPM or came and went from the area I was working. I was always able to carry on conversations with my male and female colleagues, understand radio transmissions through the mic hooked to my shoulder, and stand in groups to hold conversations. I rarely missed comprehending any words.
I occasionally switched between the Automatic and the Noise/Party programs. Noise/party definitely cut background sounds behind me, but also seemed to reduce some of the higher/sharp sounds— I think I will have the Costco increase those sounds for me in that program. I founded that I usually preferred to use the Automatic program, because my speech comprehension was better.
I also joined some buddies for lunch at a local bar, and even though there were some loud male patrons nearby, I was able to easily converse with my friends or my wife.
i also was able to hear my wife during car rides, walking in stores or outside, etc…
I did find that I would frequently turn the ’s volume up in noisy situations, or while watching TV, so I will likely have the HIS increase the volume levels to take that into account.
I rarely have any feedback noise, even if I cup my ears with my hands or put on ear muffs (hearing protectors) while mowing with my garden tractor. On the rare occasions a feedback squeal starts, it almost instantly ends-- the HA circuitry must be doing its job well.
i will be having the Costco HIS make a few small adjustments during my next appointment ( in two weeks), including the tinny sound for streaming TV, but overall, I am extremely pleased with these hearing aids.

I can’t understand why you have the TV problem with the Trax. I don’t, with a worse than yours. In fact I can hear TV/Netflix without amplification. Could it be he TV, at least in part ?

corey
In the Noise/Party mode the mics are extremely directional toward the front. Pay attention to that and you will be amazed.
I was in a restaurant last night. My daughter was across the booth and my wife was next to me. A large group of loud men came in and sat next to us. I switched to Noise/Party and I could hear people fine as long as I was looking directly at them. It freaked my wife out a little because I kept turning to face her, but it worked great, even though the men were at the table beyond her.
Oddly enough, the noise from the loud men sounded like it was coming from a small speaker on the ceiling. I even looked up a time or two!
So today I had the opportunity to test out the Rexton 42 and here are my findings compared to my KS6.0
The Rexton filters out the background noise better than the KS, when I first put the rextons on I didn’t even know it was turned on because I usually hear alot of background noise with KS but with the 42 I can barely hear it all.
We had a bit of trouble finding the correct settings for me, it was either too soft or too sharp.
When it was soft, everything sounded very natural and comfortable but I could “just” hear speech from people. When the aids was turned up, I could squeaks and screeches pretty much after word spoken and it was very uncomfortable.
The feedback control from the Rexton is very bad compared to the KS6.0. I hardly get any feedbacks at all with the KS even when I put my hand over my ear but with the Rexton’s, if I have my hand anywhere near my ear the hearing aid will just go off which is a bit of a worry. The audi said that it might be due to the KS 6.0 have bigger receivers so it covers my ear a bit more than the Rexton so she suggest to fit me with a mold.
Anyway, I decided to order the Rexton’s anyway to get a full 90 day trial which cost $1499 AUD each and the bluetooth remote cost an addition $300 AUD
Atm, I prefer the KS 6.0 due the Rexton’s bad feedback control and the sqeeks I’m experiencing from people’s speech which is disappointing because I had high hopes and expectations on the Rextons. For an extra $1100 AUD I would’ve expect the Rextons to blow KS6.0 out of the water. Hopefully this is just a programming issue and the audi can make it better in my next appointment.
That’s strange, Padzy. I sampled the Trax last week. I would get a chirp with the KS6 when close to a wall or such. I didn’t get that with the Trax. Interestingly, I tried to make them feedback and hard a hard time doing so but the audi said that she could hear feedback when I wasn’t experiencing it. The double domes on the KS6 didn’t fit my right ear well. One a bit large and the other too small. The Trax seemed a better fit.
Things did seem quieter but I could pick out voices at a greater distance with clarity. I get fitted this Friday. (7/10)

I agree with Ken about the feedback on the KS6. I had a major problem with feedback with KS6, while the Trax did great on the first try. I’m picking my Trax 42’s up this afternoon. I’ll give an update once their set properly.
Well, I won’t knock the KS6 feedback at all. I got minor feedback (a chirp really) due to the double domes not fitting my right ear well. It was so minor I decide to try to avoid going with a mold.
Part might be the reluctance of the audi to set the feedback high. Doing so loses some of the wow factor of bird song and such.
Typically you have at least 3 choices in sizes for domes accross all brands of aids. If your ears are not the same size then your domes should not be the same size for both ears. and domes come in different styles. the wires can also come in a multitude of lengths and should only have a slight slack. you should feel like you can remove the receiver from the domes and the domes should stay in place in your ears. But don’t try this as you will have a hard time taking the domes out. so padzy’s feedback issues could be one of the following:
incorrect wire size
incorrect dome size
incorrect dome style
weird ear canal shape which would require a custom mold
something is wrong with the aids (this can be ruled out if both aids have feedback issues)
I suspect whomever fitted padzy with the trax 42 aid is probably new to the field or padzy’s ears has an unusual ear canal shape.
nowadays it’s typically hard to make any aid feedback.
on another note padzy is like a lot of others users here, can’t really hear past the 2kHz. Padzy you really should seriously look into widex’s audbility extender technology. The rexton trax 42 may be the best technology to hear others in noise but these technologies are more favorable to those who can actually hear in the higher frequencies. this beamforming technology may better process some of the 2kHz worth of sounds you can already hear as opposed to using audbility extender to possibly increase your frequency range by 6kHz to 8kHz.

That’s really fascinating. I can relate to a lot of what you are saying about the KS 6. While the technology seems amazing, at the end of the day I don’t think they sound good. Still have a lot on my trial, but so far not impressed.

Every few minutes I need to push the receivers back into my ear canals. they are just barely in. I tried the 8mm first but they we’re really loose so I went with the 10mm. A flicker better. The audi Said I have very small canals.
I too have bad feedback in my left ear, mainly on tv mode.
My my aids are like padzys, I can hear comfortably but really it’s not loud enough. Basically I keep the aids cranked up. When they increased the gain it was too harsh. I went back and the Audi raised the level from beginner aids wearer to experienced. Really never noticed any difference.
Im kinda discouraged at the moment as it seems I just can’t get these right
The audi fitted me with M receiver which I find very strange because Iwhen I had the seimens 701, I was using the 45db which is equivalent to the S receiver. M receiver is equivalent to 55dB, am I right??
