More on TRAX 42 312 battery life and new version with size 13 battery.
Lived with the TRAX 42s with 312 battery for about 3 weeks. As I posted before, performance of the aids is excellent, at least for me. Love 'em except for battery life. I prefer the re-chargeable batteries and, as some others have posted, they haven’t been getting me through a full day. I use my aids about 16+ hours a day and they have been dying after about 14 hours.
If you prefer the zinc/airs, my experience with them has been 7 days, 7 hours, 45 minutes with the first set and 6 days, 21 hours, 45 minutes with the second set. I would guess most people would be happy with that and simply change out the batteries on the 6th day. Monthly battery cost would be about $2.00 (4.5 wks/mo * 2batt/wk * $0.225/battery using Costco batteries). If you choose to get the free remote with your TRAX 42s and still want to use the re-chareable batteries, the charger will cost about $90 or 45 months worth of batteries. By then the aids will be obsolete! Check my reasoning and math. So, you can make a good case for using the zinc/airs and sticking with the aids with the 312 batteries. I’m a little weird and still prefer the re-chrageables.
On August 14 Ruxtonvet posted that he was told the TRAX 42s would soon be available with the size 13 batteries. I checked the Costco web site a few days later and confirmed Ruxtonvet’s info. Called Costco and asked about the procedure for swapping my 312 battery aids for the 13 battery aids. I was told to bring the aids, re-chargeable batteries, and charger in and they would be sent back to Rexton and exchanged for the version of the TRAX 42 with the size 13 battery (essentially the Costco version of the Rexton Emerald M 80 4C, close cousin of the Siemens Pure Carat 7bx). Took my 312s in and am currently waiting for my 13s.
I’m guessing the new size 13 aids will be slightly “fatter” than the 312 version but still quite small (about the size of my old KS 4.0 aids with the size 13 battery). My old aids are quite unobtrusive.
Let you know how this turns out.
