[quote=doubledown;129582]moisture or rust is more from the fact that most users with rechargeable batteries are not opening their aids. FYI to the new users, typically we leave our aids’ battery compartment open whenever we store our aids in our cases.
The Smart Power charger/dryer supplied to me does away with the need for this.
Where would rust come from? There’s no iron anyway. The battery fittings are alloy and probably nickel plated. Corrosion, perhaps.

I stand corrected. I had an appointment today. My molds do in fact have …who knew!!!
The audi was surprised they weren’t white. In fact that are dark coloured. Anyhow…they were clean!

Evil, you are a lucky man (I’m assuming gender I guess) in that you are so happy with your ear molds. I am about to be on my third set of custom molds with ear locks. They just keep sliding out!!! I walked in to my appt with the aids the way they are most of the day and the audi cant believe how they had slipped. We put them back in and by the time I was leaving, they had slipped out again. A major source of irritation! They are getting new ones made “again” with longer ear locks this time. By the time I’m done, I’ll be wearing a head band to keep them in.

mjd2k: Well, it took two tries for them to get the molds right. So you are not alone in needing more than one attempt. Stick to it…be picky and make sure they are perfect.

Can’t understand how ear molds would slip out. Anyway…it took two goes to get my left ear right and three for the right plus plenty of grinding - they were too big and hence tight and painful. The right is still tight but at least not painful. Costco didn’t blink an eye at having this re-work done.
In a discussion about periodical cleaning the audi was almost ecstatic when I said I had an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner. She gave me a device for pressing out the receiver. One every two or so months is a good interval.
These molds are different from my superseded Phonak ones - they are closed whereas the Phonaks were vented. This total occlusion takes getting used to - no outside sound at all gets through but there’s also zero feedback from holding a phone close. Another upside is I can mute the aids using the Android app and enjoy total silence. Should be good for air flights. If something happens on the phone, e.g., a call or alarm, the aids wake up.

Walter, I’m betting, like mine, the “rust” is sweat, dirt & wax. Since it is dark, it looks like rust. It is also very corrosive to the battery contact. It will fall off like mine did 3 times - fortunately in warranty. It builds up on the + side of the battery compartment/contact. That is with a replaceable battery.

They look like this:

the is the VERY small white thing on the end of those sticks which r used to insert and twist the piece. TOO small to do it with ur fingers.
If u remove the dome u will see it on the end of the rcvr.

now that I think about it, it’s probably acid leaking from the batteries.

Doubledown…no acid in these batteries (rechargables as well). NiCD or LiCl batteries may leak…usually a white powder. But this powder may discolor metal fittings. This is not corrosion as much as it is oxidation (which can be just as bad).
But for new users… There is no acid. Don’t worry about burns. But if a battery does leak…wash your hands after handling so you don’t injest anything nasty.

I ended up taking my quintras in for repair a few weeks back and was given the Trax 42 as loaners. Talk about night and day! Everything sounded truer and had depth, I was very impressed. I spoke to my audiologist about upgrading since I had only purchased the quintras last february and the trial ended beginning of May. I honestly felt duped since these trax were already out
I am contemplating contacting costco returns (not my audio) about returning them and getting the newer ones since Now Im truly unsatisified with my ’s. Anyone have any experience about costco returns after the trial period?

I had one where I tried to return the hearing aids in November but they never had the hearing aid center open. Every time I went it was closed. I went to the front counter and they said I would have to go through the hearing aid center and I told them they were always closed, and of course, no one knew anything. Finally in January I found out the previous audiologist had left, when the new audiologist showed. Well, they did hire an audiologist but then they had the Costco training, so there were a couple of months when they had no one there. They took them back in January which would have been 5 months, but it was because I had tried to return within the 90 days. I did notice that during the return process the audiologist called Rexton on the speaker phone to get a return number, and the person didn’t even question her on the fact that it had been 5 months.
If there was nothing unusual going on I doubt they would take them back, but it is worth a try.

Thanks for sharing Don , your experience shed more light on their process. There really is nothing unusual other than the fact that I missed out on the Newer model when I had purchased the Quintras. I now need to find out the exact day the Trax were introduced at costcos and then speak with my audiologist in an attempt to either try and upgrade or flat out return and purchase the Trax due to not being satisfied…

I don’t think you should give up on the Quintra just yet. It’s still a very good hearing aid, and it uses the same receivers as the Trax. Your audi should be able to program the frequency response on the Quintra so that it matches the Trax’s first fit.

In the “Custom Molds” thread, it was mentioned that a firmware update was available for the Trax 42. Can that be confirmed, and does anyone know what to expect from it? TIA

It fixes a problem where the hearing aids weren’t returning to the last used program after taking a phone call with the Smart Connect using the Bluetooth Phone program. There’s also a corresponding firmware update for the Smart Connect. It also improves re-connection to Bluetooth devices when they come back into range.

Thanks very much rasmus_braun. If the firmware update only address Bluetooth phone issues, I guess I won’t concern myself. I don’t use the Smart Connect or do any streaming at all.
Out of curiosity, is your source of this current information available to the general public (me, specifically)? You have been terrific at answering technical spec questions when asked, but i wouldn’t have even known to ask about this update if someone else hadn’t mentioned it first. Thanks again!

Thanks for the information. I was waiting for the update.
How do we download the update to our devices? Is this a Costco thing?

Yes, your Costco fitter needs to connect the devices and perform the updates.

I’ve had the updated firmware done. Seems fine…took no time at all to install.
It would be nice if there was a mechanism that informed users of firmware upgrades. I would prefer having the latest version most of the time. It would be really cool if they could find a way to flash the firmware ourselves also. Through a connection to smart phone, or something else.
Perhaps that’s an idea for a coding genius to market! I want my cut for the idea if it goes through!
