Waiting a couple of minutes for the full voltage of the battery to be available is definitely beneficial if you’re going to program the aid wirelessly - especially with a #10 battery.
I don’t see how waiting 5 minutes will ‘condition’ the battery into having a longer life though.

@Volusiano said:I read up on it and it looks like it was only discovered about a year ago by a student in Rochester, MN, however. So I bet the HA battery industry doesn’t like to advertise this discovery, huh?
My batteries say on the packet to wait one minute after removing the tab, photo attached.

I was just reporting what my Costco person told me. I too have read one minute. Also 2 minutes from Phonak: https://www.phonak.com/content/dam/phonak/HQ/en/support/Battery/FAQ_StandardMercuryFree_Zinc_Air_Batteries_EN%20140915rat.pdf
My guess is that my Costco person was being conservative to ensure I did a full 2 minutes, even though a minute may be enough. Interesting discussion. Thank you.

ReSound says two minutes also, but PowerOne says 10 seconds.

Zinc air batteries are not rechargeable and are powered by oxygen from the air. A tab keeps the button cell hermetically sealed. Once you remove the tab, oxygen can enter and the cell is activated. Therefore, you should not remove the tab until you have need of the battery. The very long tab of power one batteries allows you to insert the battery comfortably. After removing the tab you should wait ten seconds before closing the battery compartment.

I only use power ones since they are free… the tab stays attached to the dispenser. I change batteries every Friday morning and also change the filters so I’m sure they get their 10 seconds.
