Phonak Marvel Rechargeable with SlimTip earpiece

Hello, I’m on trial with the Phonak Marvel rechargeable one. I’m debating whether to keep this or opt for the battery ones. I’ve always had battery ones hearing aid. What is your experience like with the rechargeable hearing aids? How many years have you been using it before replacing it with new ?

Also, does your earpiece a slim tip or the cshell ones? Which ones you find it better? I’m currently using the slim tip earpiece for the first time so I want to know if it affects the quality of the hearing aids or will it be better to use the cshell one? I’m so used to the cshell ones. Not sure why my audiologist gave me that. Maybe it is a cheaper earpiece?

Well, I’m pretty biased - so take my insight with a grain of salt! I’ve never wanted to go the rechargeable route. I think rechargeables are FINE for folks who don’t want to fiddle-faddle around with itty bitty batteries every few days. But for me, I just don’t have the “margin” to hear AT ALL in the case that the charge wore down and I was out somewhere.

Case in point: on a trip overseas, one of the gals in my group had rechargeable aids. The day we flew back to the U.S., she said, “Don’t anyone talk to me, cuz I wasn’t able to recharge my aids last night.” We’d been on the go so much that she simply didn’t have the time or maybe didn’t remember to charge up her aids.

Now if that was ME, I would’ve been stopped cold right at Customs. Would not have been able to hear ONE thing. That’s why I always carry spare aids and extra batteries in my purse on any trip that’s an overnighter or longer.

I just want the control in my hands for my aids. They simply have to be IN, ON and batteries working for me to communicate at all.

Battery option hearing aids can last 5 to 10 years, if wanted.

I think Phonak say the rechargeables will only last 4 years before they need changing.

I believe the Marvels are supposed to last six years and my guess is I will replace them with new improved aids well before then. I fully understand for a person who truly can’t hear at all without hearing aids traveling with two sets of battery aids might make perfect sense. For me, I can hear “okay” without the aids (I used to think I heard just fine) and thus the rechargeables make perfect sense. I don’t believe anyone is sleeping with their aids in and they have to remove them and put them somewhere, right?? When I remove them I just put them into the “charger” which also includes a drying agent and when I get up in the morning they are fully charged with another 24 hours of battery life (or 16 hours with extensive streaming), I have yet to go to sleep with less than 25% battery life left. Granted these Marvels are only two weeks old. but I believe if they start having longevity problems I will be able to return them for a replacement? Maybe I’m just naive?

^^^ You are lucky to have that margin for hearing with NO aids! You reminded me tho: when traveling on my own (sharing rooms with others in the travel group/workshop) I actually have to wear at least ONE hearing aid ALLLLLL night long. It would simply not be safe if in a room by myself or sharing a room with another person (other than my dear hubs) to be utterly stone deaf.

I give my ears a break and wear the RIGHT aid one night, the LEFT aid the other. I have to change the batteries even more often with that 24 hours of use. And so, this is another reason for my carrying TWO complete pairs of aids and lots of spare batteries.

I’m going with the 13s coming out in a few weeks, but their charger is a standard micro USB available for use almost anywhere.

I have the rechargeable M90s, and love them. But I will be getting custom molds–I was given a non-Phonak “flanged” sort of dome that works better than any of the Phonak domes, but for music to sound its best I end up having to close up my ears. :slight_smile:

I recharge them every night, and if they do give out, it’s usually the right one first (since it’s the one that receives Bluetooth and transmits it to the left one, I imagine it works harder). But they tend to start beeping at me when I’m listening to podcasts to try to help me sleep, so clearly they are making it to the end of my day!

I know my previous were terribly programmed in my quest to deal with the switch to receiver-in-canal/open domes–everything sounded like it was AM radio, and the roar of everything around me all day was exhausting. But the M90s, I forget I have them in. The world sounds natural, or at least a very close representation of how I remember it sounding. They’ve already made a huge difference in my life.

Try not to wear them 24 hrs a day. You need to let your ears breathe or you may get ear infections.
