Currently trying a pair of Virto B Titaium (Phonak).
What exactly should I expect during real ear verification?
With the aids in place and small tubes (ear mics?) in the canals my audi spoke some words (she spoke not I) and adjusted the graphs a bit. Does this sound like real ear verification? I would think I should be speaking not her?
Also of concern she did not repeat the word recognition or tone portion of the exam with aids in place. I would think a second would have been done to see degree of improvement. Is this standard or is she missing something? As I am still trying maybe this is done right before I write the check for the aids?
My other big issue which i mentioned in a prior thread is I have occlusion effect. Present with aids in place and batteries out so it is occlusion. I’m sure some of the sensation is due to amplification and chewing is intolerable due to noise. Maybe more (larger vent) is needed. Supposedly with IIC in bony part of canal minimal f any occlusion effect.
It is an option on the order form: directly off Phonakpro.com5 order form
“AOV = Acoustically Optimized Venting — Phonak will set the correct
vent diameter and style in relation to Audiogram/shell geometry/
feedback canceller and required low frequency gain — this is the
recommended vent type.
AOV-O = Acoustically Optimized Venting — Open. This specific venting
is more open and recommended for first time users and clients who are
sensitive to occlusion.”
Did she check AOV or AOV-O box? Is it reasonable that I question this? Maybe have new pair made with AOV-O checked if not done first time. Not sure if Phonak will remake. If thy want my business I suppose they will.
Also an issue is that when she was trying to program the aids for either volume or program via the suppliedmagnetic remote device. she had some problems and this will be addressed at next visit.
With these aids you can change either via remote magnet or a push button on faceplate She stated that settings in only one ear need be changed by me via remote and other ear will automatically change as well. According to Cliff Olsen Aud. this is not the case. Each aid must be changed individually. He recommends program to alter volume as the auto sense feature on the Virtos do good job of changing environmental settings. Makes sense to me.
Now what if I did not pick up on this and she programmed remote on one side only. Do you see my concerns? Issue is I like her bedside manner but question her ability. She seems to have a real passion for her profession but…
I suppose in a sense I m second guessing her expertise. She is a relatively new graduate and told me this s the first set of Virto B she has worked with. Nice woman, acts professionally but I have my concerns. I do NOT want to be confrontational so how to best address my concerns. I don’t want it to appear as if the patient is telling the doctor what to do however I do want these aids fit and programmed properly.
Any thoughts on how to address my concerns? FIW: I got a ton of info off the Phonak pro website and after reading my concerns arose.
Apologies for the long post. I’m just trying to get this right.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
