myPhonak app not saving settings

When I use the Phonak app (V4.0.1) with my P90’s and manually adjust the sliders a bit, I get the change I want. However, when I leave that section, like go back to the main vol. control section, I lose my settings. Is this a bug or intentional? I know I can save my settings, but sometimes I would like to just make a temporary adjustment, however the app doesn’t seem to support this. As a matter of fact no adjustment seems to stick, other than vol., after a few minutes. I love the P90’s and even the app’s options, but this quirk is annoying.

Very same issues. In fact earlier this morning I lowered the right volume only , closed the app and just went back to it and found that the app had lowered the left HA to that same volume level even though I used the individual volume control.
Other times I find that the lowered volume on my left HA reverts back to the initial setting on its own?
I am also having an issue with double tap. It’s not working, so I will call tech support tomorrow.

I’ll plead ignorance from the start, but I don’t think if you push “save” that it permanently alters the program, but I suspect it will let you keep the change until you get a notification or make some other change to your hearing aid. There are others on here who know more clearly how the app works.

Even if you save the setting there is a bug in the application that resets to the default setting (eg AutoSense) when you get a notification. This is acknowledged by Phonak and they are trying to fix it. I’m not optimistic they will figure it out. Lots of reviews in the Apple Store complain about this and Phonak does reply with details if you want to see more.

I am just not sure what good all the nice adjustments are for if they don’t stay put after changing them. The save options is for saving your own programs, at least I think so. I have 2 I created and I think I have a third I can create. Other than that changing setting, i.e. the sliders, only lasts a matter of minutes at the most before going back to default. Now, if I select one of my saved programs those seem to stick for a while. Perhaps this is by design? I am just not sure.

You can’t override the programs your provider set.

Yes, just making a casual ad-hoc change is transitory; either it times-out or the AutoSense decides you don’t want it any more.

Saving to a named setting does work, but is less intuitive than it could be, and apparently does not persist through a provider re-programming?

I admit I have not tried the most recent revision of MyPhonak.

If you use an iPhone then the revert to Autosense problem is almost certainly caused by some kind of Notification (as has been said already). To prove the theory, put your iPhone into Do Not Disturb mode and then select a custom program. I can pretty much guarantee that the custom program will persist/stick.

However, this isn’t a long term solution!

I’ve been experimenting today and the following as yielded good results:

  1. Go through each individual Notification and disable ‘Sound’ on each one (Settings —> Notifications —> Notification Style)
  2. Ensure you set (Settings —> Notifications —> Notification Style —> App Store (Allow Notifications = false)

I’ve set mine like this today and it’s been good so far. Don’t forget that if you have multiple phones then you need to make the same changes there too else the aids could be roused out of the custom program and bounce back to Autosense.

Unfortunately I have an Android phone. Mine does switch without a notification. I can walk outside and inside and it happens 100% of the time, I can be sitting in my chair and adjusting for the t.v., just minor stuff and It’s good until the phone goes to sleep, at least that’s what I think is happening because the changes last just minutes before going back to default setting. I really appreciate your post though, thanks for looking into it and letting me know what you found.

Hmm I may have to eat humble pie. The only method that consistently works is to enable Do Not Disturb or to kill the Bluetooth connection to the aids once you’re on the custom program you want.

I spent 1 hour on phone with Apple Support when concluded this was a fault that Phonak would need to fix so fingers crossed there’s a fix on the way soon.

You can also just kill media streaming profile and leave bt call profile on, in case you don’t want to miss calls but not be annoyed by notifications or program switching.

If apple allows for partial switching of of profiles. Check under BT settings for the aid.

This has been a problem with the Phonak app since the first version. For whatever reason phonak has been unable to fix the problem. Basically blaming it on the Bluetooth protocol.

As far as changing App settings I concur. However if using streaming from my Android or my TV Connector the programs stick like glue. If my wife talks to me she has no chance over BT. The only thing that overrides the TV Connector is the Android phone. If I multi-task, ie check Whats App or a web forum, even without audio, the Android captures the BT over the TV. Now that is annoying.

I noticed something like that too. My aides would default to the t.v. connector(which is awesome btw). However, I have to keep the t.v. connector turned off unless I want to use it, or else it will switch to it when I walk into the room. A bit of a pain but when I want to watch a movie or something like that I turn it on and WOW, clarity at it’s finest.

Solution: shut down bt media stream (and leave call stream if you need it) or whole bt on the mobile phone when you don’t need it. That way automatic changes won’t happen by notifications or sudden sounds.

Solutions:
Ask your fitter to put TV on semi manual (you’ll hear beep when you’re in range and then you click on ha Button to confirm connection) , this way you’ll only be annoyed by beeps occasionally but program won’t change automatically and you can leave TV connector on.
Another way is to put on full manual, then no beeps will happen, and you have to manually activate the program. It’s added as last one, so with aids you have to click until you reach it (a bit cumbersome if you have 3-4 custom programs) or with an app (can take several seconds to load your aids).

Actually on android it’s neither phonak nor bt to blame. It’s how android implemented sounds management.

Also useful when you in general want notifications but not from some app only, like some game.

Blacky, setting my P90’s to semi manual for the t.v. connector worked perfectly. Also, my audi wasn’t aware of the setting and thanked me for teaching him something. He said it wasn’t mentioned in the training. Now it beeps when I come into the room, it’s a very subtle beep, and if I ignore it then it simply offers me the option to select it from my drop down programs. It’s perfect. I can’t thank you enough for telling me about this!!!
