I just received a customer satisfaction survey from the local Costco where I returned my KS9’s and purchased KS10’s that has a very heavy leaning toward making sure that I was completely satisfied with not only how I was treated with the return, but my overall satisfaction with the entire process. I’ve returned a few things at Costco that carried a heftier price tag, and have never been questioned so completely about my return experience. I wonder if the Dr. Cliff videos and the chatter around them has struck a nerve at Costco corporate? Makes you wonder.
I read that you need to turn the KS10’s off if you unplug the charger and leave them inside. I think that is why they were whistling
Yes, they automatically turn on when the power is off. I don’t know about the KS10, but with the Paradise you can change them so they don’t automatically turn on when the power is removed.
Thanks. I found that setting on the Kirkland app yesterday. I had to return the KS10 last night but going back this afternoon to order them. SO excited!
Yes, the Costco fitter was out of line. I never had a problem upgrading within that 6 month return time. It is extra work for the Costco hearing center and while they are not on commission they get evaluated for sales and returns which could effect any increase in wages or promotions for them (speculation). Costco has cut back staffing due to the COVID but that should change as demand picks up. Being short handed does put pressure on people. Sometimes upgrading isn’t better. Most of the problems have been ironed out with the 9.0. Maybe you want more user control and the 10.00 will be more automatic.
I returned my KS9s yesterday with no hassle (as I expected) and get my KS10s tomorrow. I was VERY surprised that I don’t need new (custom molds with the receiver) for the KS10s.
Wonder if I should expect a customer satisfaction survey in the coming days?
I think you might do okay Kate with just domes, as I have temporary used domes with marvels when waiting for my customs to be repaired (Receiver failure) and I was fine, customs are better though, so I would wait and see how you get on? Perhaps @Um_bongo or @Neville might come in and give their expert view, I hope you enjoy your new aids. Cheers Kev
While I found double (power?) domes comfortable with my KS6s, the domes (fitter called them “tips”) I got with my KS9s were occlusive and uncomfortable. It was a HUGE relief to get back into custom . Cheers back, Kev!
M receivers. I didn’t have hissing or feedback with the Phonak domes/tips, but I did find them uncomfortable & occlusive. I’m very happy with the custom (make for my KS9s) and thrilled I can use the same ones with KS10s.
I am on my third set of Phonak in six years. Because I have good healthcare coverage I have been able to trade up every three years, but my insurance is now moving to a five calendar year cycle on HA cost reimbursement. That said, I have now personally experienced the improvements in technology, and the improvements have been significant.
I got my first set of HAs (Phonak Brios) when my local Costco first opened. After trying on a couple of brands, including the Kirklands, I settled on Phonak. My Costco HA specialist (HAS) was experienced but had never worked with the Phonak brand. She told me if I was willing, we would learn together to figure out the Phonak software. I remember it took a couple of adjustments to get rid of some annoying sounds, but I was also hearing refreshing unfamiliar sounds like my car keys rattling in the ignition.
Three years ago I traded up to the new Brio 3s (?), and by then my HAS had become an expert on Phonak. She told me it had become her personal favorite and by far her biggest seller. I noticed an improvement in the programming software, which led to better programming, but noisy, crowded rooms were still a challenge. The worst was a lab at work with a lot of noise from the heating ventilation system. In that environment I struggled to follow conversations. The remote control app was good, but I never really liked anything beyond the automatic setting. I really enjoyed the TV connector and the ability to take phone calls through my right HA. I did notice that calls didn’t work well in noisy rooms. I could hear the caller, but they couldn’t hear me because of all the background noise. The mic picked up and amplified everything around me.
I just got the new Signature 10.0s, and the first thing I noticed was the improvement in the programming software. It is amazing! Programming has been automated to the point my HAS does little more than attach leads and press screen buttons. She no longer has to precisely place the real-ear probes using an otoscope. The software tells her if the probes are properly located. The software then emits a bunch of sounds and speaks a series of words in five or six languages to optimize the settings. In fact, it goes through the process twice and then displays the programmed curve vs. the measured curve. My fitting was spot on as the curves marched very closely. So, if you are wondering if real-ear measurements are done, with the new 10.0s, it is an integral part of the fitting process.
Regarding performance, phone calls now come through both aids. I can also connect to my TV through Bluetooth. That is a plus. I am hearing low level sounds like my arm brushing against my shirt even better than before. The Easy-Line app connects faster than with my older aids, and the number of settings you can control has increased substantially.
I will update this review after I get more experience in different sound environments, but at the Kirkland price these would be hard to match.
Yesterday I had a hearing test and ordered the KS10’s. I have suffered from tinnitus for 30 years and was excited to see tinnitus relief shown on the KS10 spec sheet. I was told by the Cosco hearing aid fitter that was something they didn’t do with no further explanation even when asked why. Has anyone had a different experience with KS10’s and have tinnitus relief working? My question is this something I can address with the smartphone app?
I asked about set programs for the ’s as the spec sheet claims 4 additional programs can be installed. I was told by the fitter that these aids are so well engineered that special programming is not necessary. So I’m not getting any special programs.
I believe these issues are the result of fitter being ignorant or lazy, I could be wrong. I’ asking here for anyone with more knowledge that can help me understand if I’m wrong or if there is something I can do about added programs and tinnitus.
Received the KS10’s on Tuesday. Still adjusting as a new wearer might. So far very comfortable and have been able to where around 12 hours a a day without issue. Just everything is loud and a little tinny which I understand is normal.
Battery life is pretty good I think. At 54% Right and 58% Left after 13 hours today.
Interestedly I was the first KS10 customer at this Costco and they didn’t know much about the features. I had to tell them that they had the tap feature which they were not aware.
I was told by my Costco person that the KS10 did not have a tinnitus feature, and that was something Costco would probably never get. Some of the high end features are reserved for the independent fitters.
Never had a problem with Costco adding additional programs, it doesn’t take much time for them to add them.
