Quite possibly… but if Phonak know how to fix this common complaint you would think they would apply it to Easy Line as well…. But who knows?

My understanding is this happens only on the changes you make through the Easy Line App but not to any alternate program placed in your aids by Costco fitter that you can change to. If this is true then a visit to Costco should allow you to keep your program active.

Is that something that I will just have to adapt to or are there other earpieces similar to those in the 6s that can be used.
I deliberately wear an occlusive fit and I do notice that the sound of my voice changes with ’s in vs. out. But I think personal acceptance and not worrying about whether a different voice is “you” or not helps. I enjoy the advantages I perceive of a closed fit - greater speech clarity for me, IMHO, more bass in streaming, ability to block out external noises better (since I have good low frequency hearing that can easily be polluted by noise in the environment). So I think finding positives and not letting something become “a thing” that gets under one’s skin is a good way to go. I’d certainly discuss it with your fitter and it does seem odd, if that person saw your previous HA’s, that they didn’t discuss the change with you in advance and advise you on why it would be a good thing to go a more closed fitting route.

Might be out of line here, but I thought I read SOMEWHERE in these forums (by inference here https://forum.hearingtracker.com/t/new-version-of-myphonak-5-0-imminent/58708/8?u=oz-tack (member archive) ) that the upcoming MyPhonak 5.0 app would NOT be compatible with the KS10s - unlike the earlier app which is compatible… Has incompatibility been an issue with Costco re-branded ?

This is a strange situation to me. Some background: The KS9 was a precursor to the KS10. When it first came out, it came with the EasyLine app. It was the same (or nearly the same) as the MyPhonak app. Both apps were very simplistic. Sometime later, Phonak came out with a firmware update for the Phonak Marvel that greatly expanded features and the MyPhonak app was also expanded. The MyPhonak app was not compatible at that time with the KS9. Then sometime later, the KS9 got the firmware upgrade and became compatible with the MyPhonak app (and still is) Then the KS10 came out and they went back to the EasyLine app. It has the same features as the current MyPhonak app, but KS10 is not compatible with MyPhonak app. It’s anybody’s guess what will happen when Phonak comes out with version 5.0 of the MyPhonak app. My guess is that the EasyLine app will eventually get the features of the MyPhonak app, but perhaps it will take awhile. In general it’s best to buy products that have the features one wants and not hope that the manufacturer is going to change it to work the way one wants it to.

I just got back from getting some adjustments done at Costco for my KS10s. The fitter looked into the tinnitus issue and said that, due to regulations, they are not authorized to enable the feature. However, I’m sure that the aids have the feature since I somehow accidentally enabled it while trying to get them paired with my phone. A little frustrating but not a huge deal since there are apps that do something similar.

After a trip to Costco today, I now understand what’s going on. You are exactly right about alternative programs surviving the sound. What I didn’t understand was that some of the programs were installed by Costco and some by the app, not to mention some customized ones. Costco installed some additional programs which indeed work. Would be better if they all survived the sound, including customized ones (hopefully later this spring) but this is a good workaround for now.

I will get my KS-10’s next Tuesday so I am very interested in other peoples experiences. My fitter tells me I don’t need any additional programs because the ’s are so powerful and advanced no add-ons are needed. I wonder what other people have added programs that may help them.

That sounds a bit questionable. The power of the hearing aid has got nothing to do with if you would need separate programs. The KS10, like most modern hearing aids operates automatically, but you may want the flexibility of switching to a manual program for a couple of reasons.
Firstly there may be a dedicated program that you want to switch to. Typical ones are Music, , speech in noise or calm situation.
Although the automatic setting may detect these situations, it does not always choose what you want. You might find say, that you want to listen to music even in a noisy environment, and the aid chooses a blended program or a noise program instead of the music program in automatic mode. You can override this by choosing the dedicated music program instead.
Secondly you might want a custom program that you can switch to for a given situation. Let’s say you play golf and know you need a higher volume, plenty of windblock and speech focus.
I am sure others on the forum will have their thoughts on this as well.

Personally I’d wait and see if there are certain situations that the automatic program doesn’t work well in. Then you could either 1) figure out which of the “sub programs” of the automatic one you find yourself in when you have trouble in the certain situations and then have fitter try to tweak it, or 2) create a manual program. The one manual program that I use some in my KS9 is the directional one. Still not sure what I think of it, but it offers unique capabilities.

I’m used to my KS4s and the only auto adjustment switching to when I put the phone to my ear.
This is pretty close to what mine said at my hearing test today. The fitter told me he did not recommend any programs, but would put in any I wanted. The would adjust better, more accurately, and more quickly that I could. So I get the impression that unless the environment is predictable and consistent I’m better off trusting the HA. If I am in some environment like, say, the sanctuary at my church during services it might be worth a go, though.

I got a reply from Phonak today about the tinnitus feature (or lack thereof). They said there are indeed restrictions preventing them from releasing the software update to enable it. However, “it will be available for that hearing aid in the near future.” Sounds more promising.

What the flter may have meant is that the automatic setting works so well, you won’t need the specialty programs.

I guess that I had better turn off Tinnitus Balance on my KS10’s. I’d hate to be violating any “restrictions”. It has been enabled since its launch.

I just picked up my KS 10s on Thursday. I hated them the 1st day, but yesterday and this morning things were much better. My tinnitus seems at bay.
I made a custom program and named it 1. I took some of the treble down and increased the noise reduction feature.
The aids keep switching back to automatic. Is there a way to fix that?

Yes, go back to Costco and tell your hearing aid specialist what changes you made and they can make changes in the permanent programs. The programs you can create are just temporary.

Canuck here - Just had a call from my local Costco (Victoria ) - Canadian Costco’s can now order KS10 ($1799 CAD).

I was reading this whole post on Thursday, went in on Friday and Costco said they had just come in that day! My ReSound hearing aids are pre Bluetooth, 9 years old…it’s time for a change! My appointment is this Thursday and I can’t wait…I had the “fear, uncertainty, and doubt” about “this sounds too good to be true, there has to be a reason that my audiologist charges 3-6 times more money for what seems like the same thing” but after reading this forum my fears are much assuaged…I just can’t afford $8000 right now with the COVID recession but $1800 CAD is doable. After 9 years, I know that these once rebuilt things are on their last legs, it’s nice to have this ray of light occur exactly when I need it. Thank you all for helping me make this decision!!
