Phonak Paradise Left Side Not Working

My 7 month old Paradise left side suddenly stopped working today. When I put it in the charger, the green light comes on. When I use my android phone app, in autosense OS 4.0 (and other programs, like restaurant), both sides show green. But there’s no sound in left side. I’ve tried to reboot by pressing the button on the ear piece for at least 20 seconds, then placing back in charger. But that didn’t help.
When I woke up this morning the hearing aids worked fine…then by 10AM, left side stopped. No drops, no water, no messing with programs.
I got these hearing aids from the …now I’m on the other side of the Pacific in Thailand, so a repair won’t be so easy. Anyone have ideas?

When the aids are in the recharge station, both lights flash as normal, and full charge shows green on both. Phone app shows both sides as green in all programs. Sigh!!

You could try putting the Right receiver on the Left aid to see if it works. If that’s the case you’ll need a new receiver.

I just did that…and you’re right. Apparently, I need a new receiver. Oh, joy. It’s off to Bangkok I go.

Twice a week l put my P70 UP aids in Phonak hearing aid dryer to remove moisture. I don’t wear the aids when it is raining and over water.

Every so often I have one of my ’s go silent on me. Every time this happens I get out all the cleaning tools that were given to me when they were new and I go to work. The most helpful tooI is the one that has a hairlike probe that can get in both the main tube and the vent tube. Then I also remove the tubes and blast each one witha can of compressed air that I get from my local camera store. Always, something will work to get a clog out and the HA’s will start working again. Of course none of this will work if your microphone is dead, but it helps to eliminate suspected causes.

I called the Phonak center in Bangkok (Eartone), explained the problem, and per their instructions, mailed the bad side to their office (500km away). Within 2 days, they called back and said the receiver was bad (as expected) and that a repair would cost $60 (investigation fee) and $130 (replacement fee). It’s due to be returned via express mail today. Assuming all works when I receive it, I’ll be happy with the cost incurred.

Umm I admit to some confusion. These are 7 month old . Hey are you paying and why aren’t they covered by warranty? Does phonak only warranty in the country of origin?

I received them through the Veterans Administration in Texas. I’ll forward the bill to them and let them deal with warranty services (at least while I’m overseas).

I received my repaired hearing aid…because I wasn’t able to go to Bangkok for repair, the new receiver uses a dome instead of a fitted piece. It’s ok, but I can tell there’s a difference with a dome. I’ll go to Bangkok in the future.
Separate question: while my left side paradise was in for repair, I used my Oticon OPN1 left side along with my Paradise right side. Actually worked quite well…the Oticon phone app is far superior to the Phonak…it’s always paired, it’s always active on my phone, no waiting, ability to make a change in an instant. One thing I miss is being able to mute outside sounds while listening to TV or podcast or making a phone call. With Oticon, I’d press the - (minus) button for a second or two and that would remote the hearing aid for outside noises. But for Phonak, I go to the app, most always have to ‘retry’ the pairing (10 seconds or more), the click on the speaker icon in the bottom left of the app. I’m curious whether the buttons on the back of the Phonak unit offer the ability to mute. I’d even be willing to tap my ear 3 or 4 times to mute. Any takers?

  1. Can you not attach the new receiver in your mold? Or is it completely build inside the mold (cShell)?
  2. You can, but it has to be activated in the Phonak Target software. After that you’ll need to press the down button for a few seconds to mute/activate the microphones.
