Phonak cell phone static issues

Just got Phonak Audeo Paradise P70 hearing aids. I can answer cell phone calls by just tapping my ear. Only problem is most calls have lots of static and the people I call are not happy. I called Phonak and they said this has been an issue with new phones both Android and iPhone. It is a question of newer operating systems. I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S21+5G and going to an older phone is a silly idea. Anybody having the same problem? Any good ideas?

The problem also occurs with an older phone. I tested it with a Galaxy S7 ag as well as with a Galaxy S20.
In my opinion, it is because the microphones of the hearing aids are used.

There’s been lots of talk on this forum about this issue. It’s been ongoing for a long time. Some people say turning the phone off and on, in the morning can help.

Try changing the Bluetooth Bandwidth setting in the app from adaptive to fixed.
Do you remember if the fitter ran the Real Ear Feedback tests at the fitting?

Thanks for the suggestion! I was looking at the settings in the PhonakApp and noticed that choice. I will try. I also had software update from Samsung installed on my phone this morning. The Phonak customer support guy emphasized restarting one’s phone every week to be sure updates were installed and active. Since Phonak works well with Android one would think the phone developers would be sensitive to the issue. It is a selling point for them! Audiologist did real ear measurement, I don’t know how much he looked at actual feedback but I will remind him on Tuesday. People I talk to complain of static and voice is “warbling”. I hear it too. But when I leave a recording, that is pure.

The hearing aid microphones are active during phone calls to capture your voice. The problem is that they are not optimally positioned for this task. And it is not clear which optimizations are still activated. I myself have found that, for example, wind noise is not suppressed and other noise is also very loud for the conversation partner.
Try to go to a quiet place when the other party complains, it might help. I do this and it has helped

In the FAQ of Phonak there is a hint to another possible cause: If the call is taken on the cell phone and not via the double tap on the , it can happen with some Adroid phones that the call goes through the microphone of the cell phone and not through the HA’s microphones.Next time take the cell phone and speak directly into the microphone there to see if the other party can hear you better then. If so, select the Bluetooth icon on the call screen to switch to Bluetooth. If that doesn’t help, unpair again and pair again.

I have the Paradise P90 rechargeables & they are connected to an iPhone 11S & iPhone XS. If I move too far away from the phone then the call gets a lot of static. If I keep the phones within about five or six feet my calls are crystal clear & everyone has been very pleased with the quality & and says they can hear me quite clearly. Good luck!

Good point @Kim_in_Florida, that makes sense.
I remember that I had the problem mostly outdoors.
Outdoors there are also more likely to be problems with the Bluetooth connection when streaming, as there are no walls to reflect the signal. Especially if the phone is kept in the back pocket where the body shields the signal. This has been discussed on the forum before.
In addition, I can imagine that the transmission power from the to the phone by design was reduced to an absolute minimum to save power. And therefore only the other side hears interferences, while I hear him fine.

I use an iPhone 11 with my Audeo Paradise P70 and everyone I’ve asked say I sound clear. They however sound staticky. I was able to improve it some by going into the iPhone settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Turn on on Hearing Aid Compatibility. It did not alleviate the problem entirely, but it got better. I notice it more on individuals that speak softly. I have to turn up the volume and I think it is clipping the tops of the sine waves.

So we now can rule this out (weaker -connection when outdoor).

Any chance to try another cell phone? From a collegue or so? Then you know, wheater it is caused by the phone or from the .

Android has hearing aid support features in the accessibility section. If they are on, turn off. If they are off try turning them on. Just a thought.

I saw that in settings. I will try. Need to take step by step to see if there is a difference. I saw a notice that something had been fixed with iPhone models. Nothing about Android. The Phonak person talked about operating system issues on new phones…

I have the Phonak Audeo P-90-R hearing aids and an iPhone SE(2) running with iOS 14 and now iOS 15. No warbling or static on either end of the conversation. I always route a phone call to my . I use the tap function quite often. I wear my phone on my belt on the right side.

I have had the HAs and phone about 6 months. My HAs also had a firmware update a few months ago. There was no static before or after the update.

Good luck getting it fixed. I depend on my phone/HAs regarding phone calls.

Ks9 - Iphone 7 plus. People sound perfect to me as long as I keep my phone within a foot or two of me. People however say I sound not always that great. I assume it is probably because the microphones in the hearing aids are what is picking up my speaking. So I’ve taken to holding my hand or my phone in front of my mouth to bounce my voice back up to my hearing aid microphones. However I have never asked anyone if it has improved the sound. I guess I should, right?

Interesting development. I was looking through the settings of my new Samsung Galaxy S21+5G and I came across the option to boost hearing depending on age. There were 3 options with one being “60+”.
Previously, I had set it to 60+ because I am over 60. In reviewing, I realized it said with ear phones, frequencies can be boosted. But I am not using ear phones. So I closed it. And now my phone calls are much better even good.
