I am going back today for my second visit at Costco. I picked up my on Oct 2 and was very surprised at what I was not hearing. As I said before I had a pair of Oticon HA that were 20 years old. and thought I was hearing much more than I was. The Hearing aid specialist at Costco suggested the 9030 and allowed me to try both them and the KS10 I chose the 9030. I do not have a lot of previous knowledge to know if they are the best aid for me but I can hear much more than before and also sounds that my wife would tell me were there and I could not hear. the only complaint I have is there is no filter to filter out my wife’s voice at times lol. I have been very happy with the service and help I received at Costco Hearing Center
I’ve had my Hearlink 9030’s for 5 months now and initially had some issues with open bass domes allowing too much noise in while in noisy places. I mentioned this to a different Costco Hearing Aid Specialist and she checked my prescription. The fitting software suggested Double Vented Bass Domes. Having worn open domes for 15 years I wasn’t initially convinced, but decided to trust the fitting software and allowed her to change the domes and reconfigure their programming to match the new domes…the noise issue is now gone.
I’ve worn hearing aids for 15 years but wasn’t wearing my previous pair very often following retirement, especially during the Pandemic. The result was a further loss of hearing the higher frequencies as true tones. What remained was a psst, or maybe a hiss type of sound during an Doctors hearing exam.
After 5 months of wearing these HearLinks daily some of those lost high frequency tones have improved so much that I hear the actual tone rather than just a hiss…COOL!
Also - Hearlink 9030’s have a new firmware update which Costco performed today. My hearing Aids would not disconnect from streaming once I stopped iTunes (iPhone) but this new update fixed the locking streaming issue and also gave me a new Music program called “HiFi Music” which I assume is similar to what Oticon has recently released called MyMusic. I’m NOT suggesting they are the same program - just mentioning both hearing aids companies from the same parent company have new music programs via a firmware update.
I recently replaced my iPhone X with a new iPhone 13 Pro and although I disconnected my old phone and added the 9030’s to my new phone as the instructions suggested, my Costco fitter noticed the fitting software still referenced both phones. After she disconnected the aids through her fitting software and added them back to my new iPhone everything works correctly again. Ultimately the new firmware change might not have been what corrected my streaming issue…just throwing this out there for everyone.
These are the best sounding Aids I’ve owned and I am very satisfied, hopefully you will have the same experience I’ve had.
I got my Hearlink 9030 fine tune yesterday and the fitter turned off a setting that turns high frequency tones to a hiss. Sharpened my hearing something I can not remembering for years so great to the normal mumbling I would hear. At this point I am very pleased with my new hearing aids looking forward to hearing sounds that were lost in my life for many years. Also got the app on my phone now all I have to do is remember how to use it as an guess a call to Costco today.
Thanks for your posting. I am planning to order the 9030’s from Costco tomorrow. I preferred the overall sound characteristics of the 9030’s over the KS-10’s. I think they have the double vented bass domes. Looking forward to receiving these.
I agree the sound was better then the KS 10, I also notice I have had a noise in my ears seems like forever. With these it is not. Noticeable durning the day while I am wearing my but at nite after they are charging it is back.
I’m wearing Costco loaner Philips 9030 aids while my Jabra aids are out for repair. These are the recently released 312 battery version. I’m wearing the 8mm double-vented bass dome.
The aids are very comfortable in and on my ears. And the bass domes with the nipple opening over the seem like they are much less likely to have issues getting clogged with wax.
There are several very long threads (very!) that talk about the philips, jabra and KS10 respectively. Definitely recommend reading through. Going in educated is good and nothing replaces actual hearing through each of them.
Wearing the Philips 9030s today, when I put the right one in it was like I was sticking the dome in mud. There was no change in sound, but the right one seemed vacuum locked. I took it out and saw that there was wax or something blocking the sound opening in the dome. A couple of quick hits with the cleaning brush and all is back to normal.
This was the first time in a couple of decades of wearing aids that I experienced the vacuum lock effect from some debris on the dome opening.
I have a bass dome with single vent and once in a while (maybe every 3-4 days), I have to take a toothpick and poke through the vent to clear out the wax build-up in there. It’s very common. And maybe once every couple of months, I need to change out the on the receiver opening as well.
And you’re right, you can tell right away the occlusion when it happens.
Before when I was wearing , the wax guard is a tiny little coil that’s buried deep inside and can only be removed with a special tool. More than half the times I thought my CIC crapped out on me, I took it to Costco and sure enough it just needed a new wax guard.
