Thanks Zebras for reply. I’ve never heard of Stay Dry tubing. I’m relying on Audi and Phonak to come up with solutions for my continual problem. Which unfortunately hasn’t worked out.

So is Stay Dry tubing an upgrade over standard soft plastic tubing. And if so - is it especially designed to address moisture tube collection?

Yea - I also “googled” it. Can I ask have you personally used this tubing or just suggesting it f as an option? I think its certainly worth a try and not that expensive. Such a better option than switching ear mold material since I believe silicone molds are preferred over acrylic for those with a severe to profound hearing loss. Plus if I don switch to acrylic I believe I still stuck with tubing connection.

OK - thanks for info. I was pushed towards silicone molds to reduce chance of feedback, but rarely had such issues when I wore full shell acrylic molds. But of course I never had an aid as powerful as the Niada Paradise P90. Since using silicone ear molds I do feel my ears (or ear canal) is a touch warmer vs. using acrylic.

There has to be a common denominator somewhere, as to where this extra moisture is coming from, it appears that it must be from you, but it’s a one sided issue, by happening in only one aid, and not the other, therefore logic says you have too much moisture in the offending ear/aid? Thinking back, the only time I have had any excessive moisture in my aids, apart from extreme heat, and from exertion, was an ear infection, probably caused through an allergic reaction to my molds, I rarely get this now, as I now exclusively use hypoallergenic molds, if I recall correctly, in most instances only one side would become infected, it was extremely rare for both, it was nearly always my right ear that would become infected, to the point of having a runny ear, and me having to blow out the tubing on a regular basis to get rid of excessive moisture…… So a swap to acrylic might indeed prove beneficial, although if it persists even after the new acrylic molds, then request hypoallergenic ones! You could have an allergy to your ear molds? It is fairly common! But, as ever YMMV……

I’m coming to this thread very late but just want to say that my experience with my Naidas is almost identical to Steve’s and after 4 years of constant moisture problems I’m throwing in the towel and will try the Lumitys.

I have worn for 50 years (since age 2) due to moderate to severe and severe to profound so I’m extremely familiar with them. I’ve never had an ear hook fail sure to damper issue–until now!! Hence the reason I’m here researching . I’ve been wearing the Naida P90 UP for three years now. No problem. Mind you, I live in the Phoenix, AZ area, so it’s very dry. Then I flew to Hawaii for the first time and my HA stopped working, much to my consternation. After 3 days I found an office to bring HA to. They said it was just the hook damper and replaced it. For a price. Then took me to the cleaners for two more hooks just in case. (I’ve since learned I can get them for free from my location. Grrr! ) They said it was the humidity. Since then I had to replace my hooks once more. Then now I’m in Switzerland where it’s very high moisture and my hooks have failed twice in 5 days. Hence my research. Why would this be happening to me so many times in such a short time period after 50 years of no him problems?! So my theory is that it’s definitely the exterior moisture; and definitely a design flaw of the damper material. I either need to keep a pocketful of hooks on me everywhere I go, or try the idea of pushing it the damper. It’s very frustrating. Thanks for sharing all your experiences.

pushing it the damper

I think I’ve read that a person or two on the forum here remove the damper. Something like that. See if that works. Might even save some of those that went “bad.”

WH

I think it was @kevels55 who mentioned that he pushed the damper out and it sound quite similar. Moisture get into the ’s via the 1) microphone 2) battery space 3)tube
Every night I have to use a blower to blow dried the tube. I used a small roll tissue to dry up the droplets of moisture in the tubes and blow dried.

Yeah @danka, I had no problems for years with ear hook damper’s, I think they must have changed the damper material 2 or 3 years ago, and ever since then, I had a recurring problem, the damper would jam into the narrow part of the ear hook, then moisture would solidify it as it swelled, thereby blocking all sound! The first time it happened, @Zebras kindly informed me what the problem was, and how to rectify it, approximately 14 months ago, my damper’s were only lasting around 6 weeks or so for me, so I decided to take the bull by the horns, and remove both dampers completely, problem solved…I went damperless  BTW @Bimodal_user I have used a dryer, for many, many years, (I am now on my third) my aids are placed in it, every evening, I can testify, it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to ear hook dampers, they still solidify! Cheers Kev

Yes, I had many years ago and was just reminded of similar experiences…

Thanks Raudrive for pointing it out. If the damper is removed and no adjustment is made. What happen? (In my case of Naida P70).

There could be many potential peaks of acoustic output (IIRC, over 1kHz, probably at 2 and 4 kHz) due to resonance properties of sound tube. That peaks may potentially exceed comfortable levels.

OK. Then have to ask the Audi to do something about it in my next visit. Thanks and have a nice day

The damper predominantly affects the prescribed gain from the software. At least that’s what I saw when dealing with the dampers.
And with the dampers out you could get a little more gain out of the aids and the issue of moisture went away.
