I haven’t got mine updated yet, and more than likely will not until May. But my Audiologist did say that he expects some extra power drain from the update.

I’ve recently got More and the update was installed yesterday by my audiologist. I use an IPhone SE (2nd gen). We can’t find the feature. The iPhone SE is to my knowledge based on the same chip as an IPhone 11.
Has someone seen this feature running on an iPhone SE and can confirm?
Thanks, Florian

Well, ain’t that the truth Chuck…. Usually equates to cheaper or inferior components, I suppose you get what you pay for…. I always try and shop around, I got an iPhone 12 Pro 256gb, unopened, and still in the wrapper, from Facebook Marketplace, a fireman (unwanted upgrade) sold me it, for £400 below retail price, works perfect, as you would expect from Apple…. Cheers Kev

I am a veteran so I get veteran discounts on almost everything I buy. 10% discount on all apple products after any other discounts I can find.

I understood it’s a question of the chip. Could someone describe where in the iPhone settings this feature would be visible?

I agree I had one for a while but it is a cheaper iPhone and dumbied down in a number of ways. It is meant for countries like Africa that can’t afford the extras, so it doesn’t have the extras.

I think it is meant for anybody who wants a relatively inexpensive phone. They sell a lot of them in the US. I haven’t seen anything convincing that shows that they don’t work with the hands free streaming. Such features often take considerable troubleshooting: confirming latest firmware/software. Reinstalling apps, restarting phone, etc.

You either trippleclick on the power button an see it in the accessibility shortcuts under “Hearing Devices” or under the Hearing icon in the Control Center.
There will be pop-up dialogue and at the bottom there are “Input Options”… Automatic, Right, Left or Off which pertain to which microphone in the is used during a Hands Free call.
They posted a video here8.

I worked in high technology companies for my work life I understand how they design, build and determine what the different versions of their products are. Yes it is cheaper to only design one set of hardware then use firmware and software to set version limits. In the early days we could force the upgrade by installing higher levels of firmware into a cheaper version. The companies got small and added a small chip into the motherboards that identified the version limits of the devices, we figured that out so now they embed the version identifier within the chips themselves by burning the version codes or serial numbers preventing using higher level firmware. So yes technically the same hardware but prevented from being improved

I know this is possible, but do we have any indication other than one or more posters not being able to make it work? Things I was aware of that were downgrades from the iPhone 11 were mainly camera related like a wide angle lens and NightMode.

Poking around on Resound’s site, it suggests that the SE (2nd generation) is not compatible with hands free calling as they have those phones marked with an asterisk and it doesn’t have one.

Thanks for all the input. My iPhone is on the latest update and restarted. Pity it won’t work, it seemed an interesting convenience to me.
I’m not keen on switching to a different model iPhone as I prefer the smaller size of the SE….

I have the iPhone 13 mini and I love the size. Also, for information After the iPhone 13 Apple will no longer build a mini version of the iPhone.
