Phonak Naida Paradise P90 Bluetooth sound quality

Hi

I have Paradise Naida P90 UP for my profoundly hearing loss.

All sound great, apart from Bluetooth.

Bluetooth sounds great for 3 to 10 seconds. After that, it sounds like something kicks in and becomes quiet and muffled. Reconnecting Bluetooth and it repeats. Sounds great for 3 to 10 seconds then it goes muffled and quiet. Has anyone had this issue before? This issue is the same no matter what I connect to. Windows. iPhone. Android. Etc.

Settings wise, its settings are based on Calm Situation, with Sound Relax, Noise Block etc turned down to zero.

Bandwidth set to Fixed (tried adaptive as well).

Has anyone had this problem before?

And I would like to check the latest firmware for the hearing aids, does anyone know what it is? I am on 1.0.6 (UK)

I have the exact same aids, @flipcooke, and I have no problems whatsoever with Bluetooth streaming or indeed mobile phone calls, clarity in both instances is pristine…… I use the default settings for Bluetooth, so perhaps their in lies the problem? Even default makes no difference. It sounds pristine for 3-10 seconds then it becomes muffled. Very very odd.

Marvel aids didn’t have this issue.

Would you know what firmware version your aids are on? Mine is 1.0.6, I’m wondering whether Phonak released an update to fix the issue and I may be on old firmware? @kevels55

I mean, you could send them for repair, but I would suspect from your description that it’s a problem with the gain settings in one of the streaming subprograms.

Will be going back for either warranty replacement or refund at this stage.

I have Phonak Target 7.1. There is nothing in AutoSense Bluetooth Music / program sub stream settings, both features turned off and defaults also tested.

Why would gains drop after 3 to 10 seconds permanently until the Bluetooth is reconnected with any iPhone Android windows device. And so muffled I can’t make out voices. But the first 3-10 seconds, the voices are super clear once reconnected?

Notifications do crazy things sometimes.
Might try turning all them off as a test.

Because it takes a few seconds for the hearing aids to detect what program they should be in, and then when they flip into that program something is wrong. If you have target, look at the gain curves when you are in the calm subprogram and compare them to the gain curves (and numbers) when you are in either the streaming media and speech subprogram or the streaming media and music subprogram. Do you see big differences? The default music program can drop the highs quite substantially and depending on your hearing loss you may be sensitive to that.

It might be something else. This is just the first thing I’d check if you wer4e in my office based on your description.

Happy to send screenshots if you wished, but gains are identical or at least similar throughout all programs, which stream programs replicates similar graphs and numbers.

My hearing loss at the point my hearing aids are maxed out, as always been the case for all Phonak aids in prior years.

It’s such a oddity in my case.

Sure sounds like something is turning off the Bluetooth or the aids are fighting over which Bluetooth source is in control.
Do you have other Bluetooth devices paired and in range of your aids?

Thanks Raudrive. No other paired Bluetooth until I can get this issue fixed. I delete all pairings to avoid issues.

Have tested on windows, iPhone, Chromebook, two different android phones. All exhibited same issues whether call or music. I have since deleted pairings both on all devices and via Phonak target to keep it simple for troubleshooting reasons.

Yeah, if you find that the Roger On sounds fine then, as a test, you could try matching the numbers in the streaming subprograms to the Roger program exactly. You’re right, if this doesn’t solve the problem then it is something else. The only other thing I might try before sending them in for repair is (after saving the old settings) opening up a new session, resetting the hearing aids to factory settings, refitting them and deleting all bluetooth pairings. If that fixes things, then you’d need to have the hearing aids re-fit with . Sometimes a programming file can be corrupted and can cause some weird effects.

Roger graphs also very similar to Bluetooth graphs unfortunately.

I really appreciate everyone’s responses.

Just feel really frustrated as the aids work fine, just Bluetooth isn’t and the range of hearing aids is very limited to accommodate my hearing loss.

I’ll give factory reset a go tonight. Will update later tonight.

Set a new one up without importing Naida V70 settings.

Copied across and the global settings.

Turned all sound relax (I don’t like it) in all programs.

Moved gains back up to a similar level to what I had.

Tested Bluetooth. It played nicely (I can’t say crisp because graphs are not the same as before but is very similar), then it dropped between 3-10 seconds again in terms of volume and quality… But then it suddenly went back to normal.

I have tested both adaptive and fixed Bluetooth bandwidth, both exhibited the same behaviour.

I’m so confused!! But it’s one step forward.

But this does mean this “drop” in quality and gains for circa 10 seconds before reverting to normal quality occurs every time I use Bluetooth, which isn’t ideal.

Any ideas?

I run Bluetooth with the aids in the priority settings which is the automatic program when you first turn on the aids. I pretty much use the priority settings for everything with no problems. For music I go to the app while streaming and slide the scale over to the right one knotch. That’s it
