I have had top of the line Widex for over ten years, maybe twenty. They had their own proprietary tv and phone connectivity, which my hearing aid provider told me was kind of inferior to the blue tooth ones. Believing that, I bought the Jabra Enhance 20 Pro from Costco, which connects, through my blue tooth to my phone and the tv streamer and microphone I purchased.
I hate it. The blue tooth often doesn’t connect right away, so when I’m listening to tv, and want to talk to my husband i fumble around trying to find my phone, then scrolling to turn off the right button so I can hear him, which then can take a few seconds for the switch, in dead silence, when I can’t him, the tv or myself. It’s awful. It adds a level of complexity, which isn’t necessary.
Now, as I said, the Widex had proprietary devices that connected the TV with the hearing aids. But once you put the connecting device around your neck you only had to hit one button to turn it on and volume control. Another discreet button to open the hearing aid so you could hear both the TV and the room. No waiting. No fumbling. no finding your phone, and scrolling.
A lot more money, but I’m thinking its way worth it.
I also had the remote control which turned up the hearing aid because mine were . Also, the mic for noisy places, which I needed to wear another device around my neck. but it was always within reach and a touch of a button.
I didn’t realize how convenient they were until I tried the phone app. So much better than phone connectivity, never lost the connection! So much more discreet than fumbling around with everyone waiting-and the sound was far superior through TV and in general. Going back.
BTW, I bought, the ReSound remote so I wouldn’t need my phone, and also the mic. They work well, but the sound isn’t as warm and full. I used the optical connection so I could watch apple and it was so sharp, it made my ears hurt. Plus, I still needed to go back to my phone so I could hear my husband. Maybe I could click the button on my hearing aids but it is so complicated. There are so many variables.
I was just thinking about this and whether anyone else was having trouble with the set up. I’m getting pretty sick of technology that makes things more complicated.
I do like that I can get streaming easily, so I mainly like it for that.
That’s my research. I’m glad my hearing aids are relatively cheap. I hope the more expensive ones like phonic, starkey, etc. with phone apps provide for other ways to use the hearing aids without the phone.
