Rename Phonak Audeo P90

You missing the point. No it would not bother me if it was under the name of Phonak.

But it is actually something like “Left Phonak Hearing Aid” I don’t recall because I changed mine. I changed the name in setup of the software so it is what all devices see on bluetooth.

Mine actually say R-Phonak Ear Pod or L-Phonak Ear Pod. Does that bother you?

Yes it does bother me to advertise to the world within my bluetooth range my Bluetooth Hearing Aids.

Yes it needs to be done in Target SW, I did myself and it is super easy. If you have a Audi it is even better. My Audi is still fickle because I bought Phonaks and not the cheap crap they were trying to peddle. The system is broken, caveat emptor

Of course not, you can do as you please. The question I asked was based, as it could only possibly be, on what you wrote previously, which was that you considered the name of a Bluetooth device to be product marketing. I’d never encountered anyone expressing that point of view, which is why I asked if this was something that irked you more generally.

Perhaps you meant “I didn’t think the words Phonak Hearing Aid were necessary”. As it happens, I read your comment to mean that you took issue with the brand name Phonak (that is, the word Phonak) being there. Hence, my question.

Reasons to object to the phrase “hearing aid” are obvious enough, even if I don’t share this perspective myself.

Correct, in the big picture technically it could be proven as illegal as it may violate HIPAA laws as it exposes personally identifiable information. All companies market their product and that is fair game even Sony Samsung etc. But Phonak Hearing Aid is over the top for some. Imagine Charmin had a Bluetooth Apps that did some wonder benefit. Would you want your Charmin App to broadcast Rear Posterior Charmin Toilet Paper?

And then to fix top something you are more comfortable with, theoretically you would need pay a Audiologist.

While I am at it, I actually have my right and left aids programmed separately and NOT sync’d. Took an act of Congress because Phonak would not do nor Audio rather they provide me all of the wonder sound benefits when you were two. 75% of the time when at work, I have my Right or Left Ear Pod listening to Google or Team meeting while the other Phonak Ear Pod allows me to hear normal room conversation.

I imagine Sonova / Phonak took their HIPAA obligations, if any, into consideration when designing this product.

That said, as far as the privacy risks of a medical device are concerned, the Bluetooth device name is among the least risky elements to consider (unless of course someone customized the name in such a way as to include additional information unwisely). There is likely actual health information stored on the , accessible to enterprising Bluetooth LE hackers, that’s of potentially greater concern than the name of the devices themselves.

Strange comment. Do you think products like this are marketed in the US with no concern for US laws? And at any rate, European law in this regard is typically more stringent.

Their US subsidiary would hopefully either pay attention to HIPAA or contribute enough through lobbying the government to let things slip. Down here we have the best government companies can buy. :frowning:

Believe me, here in Canada (as in much of the world) we need to be well aware of the machinations of US law, politics, government, culture, etc. Funny thing about global hegemony…!

Sad but true. Partly why I doubt HIPAA is relevant here, as it covers a lot less than most people have been led to believe.

I occasionally keep an eye on Canadian politics and happenings. Much has changed since I left in 1980. From what I can tell Justin Trudeau is a much different Prime Minister than his father was.

I wouldn’t believe everything you hear. There’s a lot of exaggerated hyperpartisanship in our politics now, too, unfortunately. Evidently some American media portray Canada as a Communist dictatorship, which is laughable.

CBC is reasonably neutral, and the Toronto Star changed ownership recently and has moved somewhat to the right. More conservative voices here will disagree and say that both are horribly biased, of course, but what can I say…

Best invisible hearing aids

Unless he is telling those of us that renamed our Phonak Audeos to buy an Invisible hearing aid? If so; he has missed the point badly. For me those invisible aids don’t have bluetooth capability which is mandatory, 2nd I don’t think wanting to rename your bluetooth capable aid is synonymous with trying to hide your hearing aid. Why do people rename their WiFi SSID from the default out of the box? For many reasons of their personal choice, none of which is they are trying to hide they have WiFi. Shouldn’t have to pay an Audiologist to rename your bluetooth device. I love mine and so glad I was able to rename with the software.

I could do it from my iPhone.

Altho I was on a iPhone SE 2020 and now I’ve looked at my iPhone 12, the option has gone / missing.

I don’t think changing on your phone is the correct place to do it. Unless you were changing everytime? Of course I have never own a Apple anything let along Iphone.

I have Samsung S20 and can change it too, but it is only temporary. You have to use that software via Noahlink to change it if you have or you must use Audiologist for it to be permanent. I was able to change mine without Audiologist and without any help from the useless Phonak Support, who response to every question seems to be see your Audiologist.
