Anyway to stop the Phonak TV Connector V2.0 being stereo?

I have a very old TV and a Phonak TV Connector.

I really want to make it sound into my hearing aids as mono because my left picks up very little Speech.

I can’t figure it out.

I don’t believe my TV is capable.

Anyway to stop the TV Connector being stereo?

Speech out of my right by any means, streaming or not, is very bold. Can’t describe it anyway else. Not loud but bold.

My left literally picks up background noise very well but Speech is very weak. Make it louder and it just makes background noise louder but Speech isn’t any clearer or stronger sounding.

I’ve realise this is my new normal and I’m okay with that as my right is still really good.

Interesting! You would need to either go analog or mux the streams in another gadget.
According to the manual: “Audio socket for optical (Toslink) or analog (3.5mm jack) cable”

So I would go for the easy hack: Combine the analog signal and ground lines so you have mono.
Either put a mono female-2-male-jack adapter in between or cut a stereo jack-2-jack cable.
Or if you’re shy about cutting and have some conducting foil, you could just short the two top rings of the stereo jack. Or reckless: open up the TV and connect the lines there.

Does anyone know a nice gadget that can mux audiostreams? I have found a optical-out-Hat for a raspberry Pi, but never an optical-in.

I wonder if I could get an audio cable that is mono. I’ll have to look on eBay.

I’m just using an audio cable at the moment. No one else watches my TV.

Shorting the mains or a battery is bad.
Shorting two signal streams, is combining them.
Shorting the ground and the signal is bad
So basically, do not combine + and - with a short. However, combining + and +, or, - and - does other things.

It’s the same way. The two top rings are combined into one ring.

Don’t know what more you could do with three lines. One is ground, one is right, one is left for stereo. If the adapter is true, than the left and the right lines are connected and the ground is left alone.

3.5mm stereo to twin RCA → twin RCA into RCA Y splitter → Y splitter into the adapter that @ Markismus recommended

That will take both channels out of the TV, combine them in the Y-splitter and then split them back to two identical channels again for input into the TV connector.

I’ve just doublechecked and I can’t see any specific settings in Phonak Target related to this.
Some TV’s and sound bars/receivers can output sound like this as I’ve seen the setting floating around before like the ‘Mono audio’ accessibility setting that Android has.

Why do you want to merge the signal two times? One adapter with one stereo cable does it. Really.

( I used it way back when one channel of my digital piano was buzzing and I had to disable it. That left me with one channel, which I split into two with the same kind of setup: a short between the tip and the middle of a 6.35mm stereo male-to-3.5mm stereo female.
Zebras could get a very small piece of wire and let someone solder it between the tip and the 1st-ring: It’s a 1 minute activity.)

That adapter says that it only takes a mono input and splits it. We need to combine the channels first to get mono audio and the split the channels to supply two channels of mono to the TV streamer.
