My audiologist has given up on me

I am going to be blunt, you clearly need hearing aid and needs to start wearing them within your waking hour. isn’t magic, your speech recognition may improve over time as your brain gets used to it…

Also this impacts your evaluation, you are definitely not a CI candidate because of the simple fact you are not wearing your hearing aid during waking hour and it won’t give assurances to CI clinic team that you are committed to using your sound processor if you decide to get one…

Your low frequency hearing is not as good as I had imagined. So, some questions:

When you are eating, if the hearing aids are turned off (batteries out) if you put them in your ears anyway do you still get that crunchy effect?

Are you still considering returning these hearing aids? Or are you outside of that window?

Absolutely, given that the OP was told specifically that they have narrow canals I expect that this is a factor.

I’ll try that on the next occasion (Sunday). The crunchy effect blocks out all the onversation around me.
Nothing was said about returning them: I think provision under the government programme works differently from commercial supply.

I think @cg1 has decamped, ladies and gents … His public profile is hidden - I’ve never come across that before.

I sit alone for most of the time too, but I wear my from the moment I get up to the moment I go to bed and I don’t think it ridiculous. Why? Because by doing so, I’ve allowed my brain (which, as my audiologist is fond of telling me, is what really does the hearing) to train itself to create the enhanced soundscape which I enjoy so very much more than the barren environment without HAs.
But it takes time (weeks … months) for the brain to adjust and create that enhanced soundscape. So my advice (which is echoed by wise contributors here) is to give your brain a chance to work its magic by wearing your HAs throughout the day, every day.

@KiwiJohn: I always enjoy your explanations, @KiwiJohn, but - alas - it’s not this sage advice that the OP wants to hear, so I fear he has sacré 'd his camp…

Too bad - I think the Forum could have enhanced his quality of life, as do you.
