@Neville: A couple of years ago, you showed me the error of not having pursued a serviceable fix for my Unitron Blue MoxiFit 800s, and @cvkemp made me aware of rehabilitative workarounds, online.
My Oticon ConnectClip remote mic setting and my Oticon EduMic have been essential to my recovery of word and sounds recognition that I thought my visual cortex had irreversibly recruited. (I believe that the clarity afforded by these devices is the magic…)
So this research finding is not surprising to me.

Interesting @Neville on the research…Neural Synchrony… Way beyond my pea sized brain
But interesting nonetheless

Neural Synchrony
@kevels55: I think some of Karen’s pricey Aveeno shampoo has this ingredient on it, which explains why she’s so on-the-ball after her shower!

A sort of simple way to think about it is that you have thousands of auditory fibres sending signals from your inner ear to the brain and it matters whether they are all singing the song along together versus each singing it a little bit off time. Think of. . . the national anthem sung by a choir versus sung by a stadium crowd. Neural dyssynchrony results in auditory processing problems.

Thank you @Neville, for the scientific, and the analogical version, makes sense… I am wondering, considering my , which some might say is challenging, NHS A.uD said on my last visit, he sees someone with my level of loss, maybe once a year, if he is lucky? Perhaps, I have always strived, to hear as best as I possibly can, that and being a gadget freak! Do you think, because I have always been aided, since approximately 6 months or so, after 30 + years ago, and always wore my aids all day, I never lost the ability to interpret well annunciated voice, these Naida P90 UP’s are excellent aids, the best I have ever used, and in combination with , and my Roger devices, I can honestly say, without fear or favor, this is the best I have heard since my initial hearing loss… In ambient acoustic listening environments, I don’t need Roger, and yes I am an excellent lip reader, according to my NHS A.uD, but in many instances, I don’t need to focus on the speakers lips, I hear them clearly, and concisely… Challenging listening environments, are always going to be such, but I have Roger as a backup… I see many folks on here with what I regard as uncomplicated, moderate to severe losses, whom really struggle, I assume because they went unaided for too long, or perhaps they were badly fitted from the outset? I just find it amazing, given my level of loss, I can still effectively communicate… Your thoughts would be very much appreciated… Cheers Kev

Absolutely, I would expect early and consistent aiding to be very valuable and you have probably benefited from your good habits.

Had a magnificent appointment with my audiologist this afternoon. Wow.
Got there early. Sitting–couldn’t understand what the nurse was saying. I was sitting about 7 feet away. Automatic setting.
Opened up the app…played with settings. Conversation in calm was what the P90’s had been in in automatic. I turned on “clarity” Big improvement. Turned up volume a little pit. Restricted listening area a lot. Big improvement. Maxed out “Dynamic” to the Soft end. Huge improvement.
Did that with some other auto programs. Conversation in LOUD and VERY LOUD.
[Live in Toronto Airport Flight Path. Noisy.}
Audi and I got talking. Described a conversation I had with my Wife and Frank in the flightpath. I gave up right away; couldn’t hear a word in automatic. They talked for about 10 minutes. Frank has new hearing aids; no problem.
So he called PHONAK in Mississauga then started making changes implementing these settings.
WOW. I heard music in the Jeep on the way home. I heard cymbals. Hadn’t heard them for the last two sets of PHONAKS.
My story isn’t important. BUT it may help someone else. @rogerinshoreham I’ll send a note tomorrow.
@SpudGunner when I got home later, took the Attack Puppy out. Got two bad bites. First bad ones in a long while. Makes me sad; been a dog owner for the last over 35 years. He’s a forever dog; got some work to do. Stressful time.

@DaveL: How old is your pup? There’s too many good dogs that need loving homes to waste life on a chronic biter, IMO.
I’m glad you are getting your sorted out. I never liked Unitron (Sonova) devices because the Auto setting was never right and my audiologist didn’t understand how to set the aids up for beans. Their vertically-integrated retail setup sucks, IMO. Everyone just sings the company song if you complain.
At least with my Oticons, I can shop around for an audiologist who understands them and isn’t married to Sonova. Like @cvkemp , I don’t worry about auto program switching any more. My default program does 90%, and my v5A handles the rest.

I am to the point that I only need the default program. I can easily go from one environment to another without even thinking about my aids

@cvkemp: It’s the proper thing, Chuck. Shouldn’t have to worry about changing pesky programs.

Just wanted to report in about my first real test of my PartnerMic.
I had a 3 hour training meeting (quite technical) with 11 people there this afternoon. Got the lead to wear the mike and it was brilliant. The background low noise level meant I couldn’t hear very well if someone asked a question (I wasn’t quick enough resetting the programme each time) but the lead lady’s voice was absolutely what my benchmark was - clear, crisp and as I said not competing with the usual things. This is going to be great.

@DaveL : Dave, I hope you don’t mind that I made the comment. I made it because I’ve been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It’s a heartbreaking thing, and it’s also dangerous for children, for old people, and for other pets. So I made the comment to be helpful, and not to be critical.
I have some experience with this - in fact, lots of experience with dogs and horse training, and I’m just giving you some advice to prevent harm from coming to something else that you love. So I’m glad you appreciate the comment in the spirit it was offered in, and didn’t take it badly.
Have a great day.

I don’t want to change programs and then think about what program I am in. My first 3 sets of aids didn’t have different programs or even away to adjust volume. I just put them in my ears and went about my day

@cvkemp: I don’t need those pesky extra programs, either. Thank goodness that @Neville put me on the track to get my BrainHearing back, with help from yourself, too, Chuck.

Hi Dave. You know already that I’m not a big fan of those pesky PMs, unless they’re about things entirely unrelated to . I feel all HA-related talk should be accessible to everyone, for their edification or enjoyment. But thank you for asking for permission.
