How to replace battery in Phonak Audeo M-50R

Here what I believe you should do:

  1. Remove the plastic casing and the wires from the new batteries
  2. Remove the top of the original plastic casing
  3. Unconnect the wire. Pay attention to not break it. Scratch some insulation at the tip to allow a good electrical connection to the new battery
  4. Remove the battery from the casing.
  5. Unconnect the wire. Check for the polarity
  6. Glue the red wire
  7. replace the battery in the casing
  8. Glue the green (or black) wire. Let the glue harden
  9. Charge the
  10. Enjoy

Hi @gtremblay thanks your reply friend! so if i understand you correctly you recommend i unconnect the green wire first(presumably negative?), then the red (presumably positive?). then when i go to put it back together i connect the red first then green?

I think the replacement battery has soldered wires so i don’t particularly want to try to remove them and intend on keeping the wires in tact. i’ll likely remove part of the battery casing to get it to fit.

The casing in the is not standard. It is used to hold the two charging contact. Hence you must keep it in place. You must remove the top, extract the old battery and disconnect the wires. To insert the new battery you must remove its casing and wires. Otherwise you will be unable to insert it in the original casing. As far as reconnecting existing wires to the new battery you connect the red to the positive side and then slide the battery in the casing. Then connect the green to the negative side.

Do you really need to replace those batteries ?

I’ve bypassed the hearing aid’s charging BMS…insert pins to contact the “failed” battery’s poles and attach an external power source and charge battery to say 3.2V. Assemble, place in Phonak charger, should see flashing green light on H/aids.

I assume that the on on-board BMS needs a certain threshold voltage before allowing the Phonak charger to do its thing. Most Li-ion BMS’s should cut out about 2.7V so we need to get above this voltage, say 3.2V.

The method is none invasive. Yes I’ve gone down the track removing the battery, detaching wires from the board, not purposely, etc and even wrecked a perfectly good battery which had the potential of a life extension.
