ALTHOUGH, a while ago I read a Sonic white paper and the description sounded very similar

to speechgard. There is perhaps some cross over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Zircon 1 outperforms

any if not all the top instruments from Sonic/Bernafon/ Philips it is a darn great instrument for the $$

im surprise it hasn’t got that much attention

I find this useful too. Especially in noisy environments. I find that the mics are more sensitive to my hair rustling! So I don’t use this on my general program but I would like to use it more than I do.

I had a chance to trial the Sonic Enchant 100 back in 2017 for a couple of weeks, so this is probably a couple of generations back from the most current Sonic model offering. Whether it was channel-free or not, I couldn’t care less. But I didn’t find it to be garbage at all like you said. I found it to be a very respectably well performing hearing aid. I wrote up a detailed review of it on this forum in case anyone might be interested it looking it up.

the average hearing aid from the big 6 is OK
the technology state is such that a well fitted hearing aid
would do “respectable”

My experience does not come from fitting hight end but
also cheer, and others.

Back in the day the velocity was a interesting product.

I was fitted with a channel free Bernafon in the late 1990s/early 2000s. I wouldn’t characterise it as garbage. It was excellent. But at the time I was wearing a programmable Phonak Sonoforte23daz. Which to this day I still rate as one with the most clarity that I have worn over the years. Still - the bernafon had a really nice, pleasing aesthetic.

I understand the point that todays processors are not slowed down by the analog to digital conversion etc. So channel free is maybe not necessary anymore. Along these lines an aid I would be really interested in trialling, if I had bottomless pockets, is Widex; as they claim to have one of the shortest processing delays - from microphone to receiver - with their zerodelay technology.

with no noise reduction. Oh those days, those who love them used to say exactly that
it was quite clear but I think it was rather linear. I admit I dont recall the details…

@prodigyplace: Bruce, they are relatively small inconveniences, compared to others: I have buried my best friend, another close friend, and a favourite, beloved aunt, all since November 15th of last year. I’m glad to be , dim of vision, in chronic pain from back injuries, but still on this side of the sod, with my small but deeply caring family to bless my life.

But you’re correct - the cataracts are a frustration, and mine are inoperable, given existing technology. Bummer, sorta …
