@prodigyplace that’s the thing… Looking at your audiogram I don’t doubt one bit that you hear sudden sounds more. If you look at my audiogram, you can see that I wouldn’t. My loss is minor. Enjoy the Real one!
You indeed do have a minor loss. My daughter has normal hearing, but she’s still very sensitive to sudden and loud sounds. My son also has normal hearing, and sudden and loud sounds doesn’t bother him as much. So I think it very much depends on the individuals. Also, in your case, your wide open vent already lets the sudden loud sounds in naturally, so whatever the feature does to dampen the sudden loud sounds out of your receiver, it would not help with anything because you’ll get the full brunt of the sound through the open vent anyway. So if you’re already accustomed to it (like my son is), then it wouldn’t do a thing for you, but it’s your brain hearing that shields you from the loud sounds, not this new feature.
Your question brings up an interesting thought. I wonder if this sudden & loud sound stabilizer feature would help act as a hearing protector of some sort for hard of hearing folks? I remember reading in lots of places before that one should never count on using hearing aids as a hearing protection device. I wonder if this changes that or not?
Of course for folks with milder hearing loss like yourself, the open vent already lets the loud sounds in naturally through the vent, so this feature doesn’t help these folks much anyway, even if they are adversed to loud sounds like my daughter. But for folks with more severe hearing loss and wears custom domes with closed vent, how they would feel if they went to a rock concert, for example?
