Cochlear give it user s almost dangerous level of programming them yourself via the smart app
they actually give you coarse control on voltage adjustment if the clinic give you access… it is not likely the case if you don’t have a clue. They were hesitant on giving it to me in the past but i really understood what the feature does… It is called Master volume , bass and treble (MV/B/T) , and light setting on the processr beep adjustment.

Other companies should follow suit… clinic should give users access to on a case by case basis

Just check this forum! It’s very popular and always will be for a number of different reasons, cost is a major factor in going this route among many other reasons.

Of course, it’s been around for much longer then most members now, lots of us on the forum are active in DIY.

Some already do this by using “codes” others by special versions of their respective software, it’s not unusual.

Mate I see this everyday! But I believe a lot people think it’s just to hard to do DIY, if you do some research and ask questions it’s not that hard at all, everything is available from the interwebs ; )

I asked my audiologist about our relationship when I do She said that several of her patients already do DIY. She said it was particularly valuable when someone is in a work environment where adjustments must be made daily and it is just not practicable to see an audiologist frequently on short notice. She thinks that is the way things are going in the future.

I chuckled when you guys mentioned that. Because I had a computer-related emergency call from a friend just the other day. He clicked on a pdf, his pdf reader app started up and went full screen. Once he was through reading he was stuck, couldn’t figure out how to “unblock” his screen. No sense trying to teach him the basics over the phone after so many years, shutdown and restart to the rescue! :slight_smile:

Plus, making an appointment to say, change the TV connector setting from auto to manual, is a huge waste of everybody’s time. Many can justify the cost of a Noahlink Wireless even if it’s only used to make the minor changes. Some people spend more than that on lunch. Even so, the number of people doing probably saves about as much resources as Tim Hortons removing one donut flavor from their menu.

Like I’ve said before, conversations can just flow that way. We have the source reasons for some bans, one of them was prolific, they kept their content separate, we are discussing the effects of that and the conversation flows. No, I’m not one of those sticklers for staying on-topic. I’m more interested in the conversation. But having been around several forums for many years I get that others think differently on that and that some forums can be brutal in cutting off off-topic meanderings.

Please don’t leave. I’ve dealt with trolls like this for the better part of three to four years after being a moderator for my city community. They crave attention and it’s best to distance yourself from them by reducing your consumption of their media. There’s two sides to every story, and it’s best to keep to your side knowing what you know and letting them dwell in theirs. No point in trying to engage with them if all they’re doing is spreading nonsense to anyone that’ll listen. You’re better than that.

Nothing wrong with taking a look at their website when you need it, but it should bear remembering that not every contribution to a community makes you immune to the rules that are lay out for said community. To avoid this, you could probably just save webpages and reference those without having to deal with the drama.

Oh I completely understand from your point of view, ya know it’s pretty cool that your online on the forum at your age ; )
One thing that I’ve supported is our local rest home, it works for them because it’s a real hassle for some to get out and about.

Oh, I get a lot of info from the forum but the rather confuses me. I had to teach myself to operate a computer in 1992, and very eagerly did because I didn’t have anyone to teach me. Then the cell phone, another trial and error but unlike the computer.
I get my Oticon at Kaiser Permanent and they are very helpful with adjustments and I am happy with the brand. In my case, Costco tech was not helpful so I got a refund and went to KP. Have had since my late 30s and needed them even earlier with a genetic hearing problem. So thank you for all your help.

Oh I do realize. My mother in law has no computer and only a simple flip phone. Her tv box is also a dvr but she has no clue or interest in having a clue. My mother has a computer and just barely does a couple things in it. Mostly just to see pictures of her grandchildren and great grand children. She is struggling to use a smartphone where before she had the same flip phone.
I understand this is generational.
I happened to have a working life of being a computer tech guy.
In this context, it is a pretty good learning curve just to be able to get the current data off the ’s let alone doing anything more. So I certainly grant that this is not for everyone. My comment was more about after all these years of exposure to these tech either by personal use or work and having and using them that people still struggle with the basic functions let alone anything more advanced. I was not directing towards those that don’t even have much of these kinds of tech.

Thank you for your clarification of not making sweeping generalizations. My apologies if I offended.

I understand Z10 and I have been using a computer for many years and very often. I finally understand my Android better. No need to apologize as I enjoy the forum every day and read the with interest but no interest in learning it.
Don’t forget that 90 is the new 60s. Thank you.

If 90s is the new 60s and 76 is the new 50s does that mean you have to come out of retirement and get back to work? I hope not!

Looking at retiring in 14 months, currently in my 60s which could be the new 40s.

Southern California Kaiser refers you out to somebody don’t they? Each region is different. I know NorCal carries hearing aids. They may or may not be a covered benefit depending on one’s plan.
