I think there has been comments from the Phonak camp (if I remember correctly) about the right aid consuming battery faster than the left aid. Something about the right aid being the master communicator when streaming and the left aid acts as a slave, getting the streaming data passed over from the right aid. I don’t know if Philips design their aids with some kind of a master/slave configuration like that or not, though. But that may explain it.

No. The master/slave thing is Bluetooth Classic Audio. Phonak/Unitron only.

And there you have it. My right ear has far worse hearing than my left. I have a power receiver in my right aid. It consumes more juice from the battery than the left. Hence, it takes more time to charge.

My biggest challenge is soft speaking people who won’t raise their voice even a little when they KNOW they’re speaking to a person with moderate to severe hearing loss. A little effort goes a long way. Before I got my 9040’s from Costco last week, a typical conversation with the wife would go like this: Wife-mumble mumbleblahblahfsadkfajkl. Me: Wut? Wife: mumble mumbleblahblahfsadkfajkl. No louder, no clearer, nothing. Now with the 9040’s it’s much better, but it seems as if the highs are WAY to loud, drowning out much of the mids and lows. So now when I say “Wut?”, which is much less often, most of the time I’ll get it on the 2nd try.

I am getting my 9040s on 6/16. Hopefully I will have to say “wut” less often.

Same problem so I ordered Starkey Open sz 5, 6, 7 & 9 Comfort Bud Dome Kit to see which one I like. Lets see if that fixes the issue

OK, JPinkard - thoughts on the 9040s? Or is it too soon? (I just misplaced my Jabra charger while traveling, and you can’t buy a replacement off the shelf. I’m changing, either to replaceable batteries on the Jabras or the 9040s. found the charger, but I think I want replaceable batts. I’m not getting any sharper…

I am getting my 9040s today. I have been wearing the Jabra Pro while waiting on the 9040s. I have had 2 incidents were the right aid battery ran down early in the day. I always check charge level when I put them on in morning. It shows 5 dots, fully charged. One morning it was dead at 730am (I got up at 6am).

The at Costco said the Jabra’s had a charging issue. Based upon my experience and his comment, I would not get a rechargeable Jabra. I hope the 9040s are better. If not, I will swap for the non chargeable.

I will give an update on the 9040s once I get a couple of days of experience with them.

I"ve had the 9030’s for about 8 months now. I wear them from about 6am to 10-11am everyday without any battery failures, just an occasional low battery warning in the late evening. Maybe the loaners have had a lot of use and so have weaker batteries? Wind noise has been a slight issue with the 9030’s as is sharp sudden kitchen type noises and the noise filter to handle that is on max now. Is it likely that the 9040’s have any physical changes to enable the better wind control or is this all software/firmware. I would love to upgrade to the 9040’s to see if they help. Too bad there’s not a software upgrade to add the improved 9040 features.

I’ve figured out streaming music to the point where it’s not bad, using a secondary equalizer and setting the app to boost low freq while attenuating high. Does anyone know if the app 2 is any advantage and does it work with 9030’s? My biggest complaint of late is how my 9030 distorts sounds from my guitars. Makes them sound way too tinny and metallic. The noise program with all the noise values set to max does the best job of smoothing this but it also muffles all sounds a bit. Nothing’s perfect I guess. I think I’ll ask my Costco fitter about the 9040’s but I think I’ve had my 9030’s too long now and past the 180 day return.

The 9040 has sudden sound stabilizer and wind & handling stabilizer as its 2 new features. If you’re already past 6 months, you probably can’t return the 9030 for the 9040.

Why are you using the noise program set to max for playing your guitar? Shouldn’t you be using the Music program?

One thing you can try to improve your lows when streaming beside using the equalizer to boost the lows is to plug up your ear canal with some kind of ear plug to keep the amplified lows from leaking out. You can just quickl use your fingers to simulate the plugs to see if it works before actually getting some real ear plugs (if you don’t have any).

I also play the guitar, I had to turn feedback management off on the programing software for my Oticon Opn S1’s music program to avoid hearing the strings fluttering like a chorus/phasing etc effect, you might want to ask your Costco fitting person to try it.

One way to test it is to play a sine wave like this one from a external source not streaming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUqIISudOL49 you should be able to hear the pure sound with out any extra artifacts while using your music program.

The biggest problem I have with my 9040 is the bluetooth connection. Sometimes the app wont connect. Sometimes bluetooth disconnects during phone calls. Really annoying. Three times the left one has powered down and then powers up by itself. Sometimes I am listening to music thru them and the left will cut out and come back after a few minutes and then the right cuts out and in and I just sitting. I am going to tell them I want a new left one. Just received the Starkey domes but cant figure out to replace them. I will try again tomorrow.

The music program was the first thing I tried. For me it’s horrible and makes all the highs distort and every guitar I play sound like tinny metallic rattling. I did look at what they did in that program and looks like all noise reduction is off which is why I spent some time using the noise reduction program. Yes it does mute things a bit which I why I boost it a couple of but for an acoustic guitar it helps. I do plan to use ear plugs when I play as well. A secondary help with that might be to eliminate any coulomb filter effect or reduce it. I just got to the point where I could not tell if a guitar’s tone was good or tinny and thin…the most expensive sweet sounding ones sound like crap to me, lol.

the pre-established “musicians program” on my Signia Ax7 was rubbish. Once I convinced my audi to tweak it , it works great. You have to turn OFF completely compression and most other features. look for a pdf that’s kicking around here somewhere that details setting up a musician program for hearing aids. Most audis assume the program that came with the aids is fine. It’s not.

The tweaks merely involve a few clicks of the mouse. It can be done in two minutes.

The tone generator didn’t help identify what’s going on with my ears. I heard the tone fine with any of my programs. And while the music program might make things sound bright, it also makes music and my guitars all sound very unpleasantly bright and shrill sounding…so much that I don’t really trust what I hear when playing anymore when it comes to music. That edgey nature with some notes really kills the joy. And I do have my high freq down by 5 and only 90% of the goal too (I was at 80% and really trying to tolerate more). This really became a noticeable issue when I put new strings on an OM sized guitar without great tone and it became much more annoying and tinny. I even tried adding more relief without zero difference. And the frets are very level on this guitar. But none of my guitars sound normal to me since I started wearing …all are more tinny and shrill sounding these days.

If you want the best outcome then its a project, only you know how you want your music to sound,its quite easy actually, get a copy of your software and then you can have a play around to see whats possible, just lowering the higher frequencies with all the features off could be all that’s needed.

I did buy the NOAH box and have done some tweaking but good idea about concentrating on the hifi music program. I’ve tried to keep changes small to not get things too screwed up. I did try to see what lowering the feedback control would do and of course I got feedback, lol. I already have the hi freq reduced (in whatever the program used for high freq) by 4 for all programs.

I just tried that tone generator. Around 1.5- 2K it sort of sounded like some tone doubling and it became worse the higher I went…not sure if that the same as I’m hearing with the guitar but I assume it should sound more steady and less wavering? But that is where my hearing takes a dive looking at the .
