Fortunately @Baltazard I get mines as part of the service from my A.uD, free gratis  I do not buy from companies, that charge OTT shipping, I dismiss them immediately, when I am on the lookout for any product… That price for for shipping is exorbitant, a Jiffy bag, and a first class stamp, will be no more than £2… Tubing must cost about 2p each to make :upside_down_face: Some folks get their money easy… Cheers Kev

Autosense in loud noise was disappointing, just reducing all volume including speech in close proximity.

I re-added Autosense the other day and found it a little better than I remember. I’ve decided the thing I dislike most, about it, is beamforming. Last night I went into each of the elements that make up Autosense4 and reduced the beamforming slider to zero. Sadly, however, “Speech In Very Loud Noise” doesn’t have that option, so I fear, a Very Loud environmend will be useless for me.

I believe, my expectations of Phonak aids mean I don’t need the expensive versions. Certainly no need for the P90 version.

Peter

I got mine from HAB hearing in Keighley, not expensive i think they were £15 for 5.

I have 2 types, I see some of them are supplied from Puretone… Both work equally well. Cheers Kev

I am noticing a slightly strange phenomenon on the Naida Lumity 90 UP , well not exactly the aid’s themselves, namely the Ear Hook, I am thinking, it’s just as well, I have a box of them, otherwise I would be running back and forth to the audiologist every 6 weeks or so… The white damper swells up, and jams into the widest part of the Ear Hook (see image) completely sealing in, all the sound, rendering the aid useless, until the Ear Hook is replaced… Now, either my ears are producing much more moisture, or Phonak have changed the material they use for their dampers? My aids go into a drier every night… Anyone else encountering this problem? Cheers Kev

Yeah that’s strange, if they have changed it they didn’t test it!
Maybe the temperature of the dryer and new material is not compatible?

Hi @PeterH
you can exclude “Speech In Loud Noise” from Autosense and create a dedicated manual programm for “Speech In Loud Noise”.

G2

Remove the check mark at “Autosense OS” programm options (see point 4)

Then add a additional Programm for “Speech In Loud Noise” see 5)

G3

This is the view you get after you click on the + symbol to Add a programm:
You need to select create a linked program for “Speech In Loud Noise” so you can then manualy access this via push button or via app

I have had that drier, for 3 or 4 years now, it still heats up, and puts out UV light… In my experience, Ear Hooks, do not swell up and block, well sometimes they do, but it’s a rare phenomenon, it’s only happened once before, with my Paradise aids, but never with any other aids, 6 weeks or so ago, both Lumity aids damper blocked up simultaneously, with no sound whatsoever emitting, I thought at the time, both aids had failed, but no, it was the damper that blocked… I think, it has to be material failure? Or lack of testing as you rightly suggested…Cheers Kev :

My brother removes the damper bit.
Looking at the picture of the tubing, where did you get the one on the right (made in USA)?
Puretone and HAB (HAB’s ones supplied by Puretone, from my experience), sell 5 in a bag!!!

It’s Marked as 10 in the bag from Puretone… And if you think about it, why would anyone sell an uneven number like 5, the vast majority of us have 2 aids… The ones marked USA, come in packs of 20… I get my A.uD at Boots to order them for me. Cheers Kev

Just out of interest, what is the importance of this damper pad. Since 2009 when I was first prescribed with (UK) NHS aids, I was mostly prescribed with earhooks and full mo(u)lds. In 2015 I was told thin tubes and closed (2 holes) domes would be ok for my loss… they were lazy and wrong on this, but they didn’t have damper pads.

Anyway, I pushed these dampers out of some early earhooks, and all seemed ok after that, and the aids worked until the day I had enough backup sets to just throw them out.

On my Bolero Marvel M70s, I’ve replaced the earhooks and thick tubes with thin tubes and custom slimtips. There’s no damper between the ear and the aid in this scenario, so it makes me wonder why it’s need in the earhook/thick tube?

Peter

Not 100% sure either @Baltazard or @PeterH I always assumed the damper was for preventing too much moisture getting back into the aid, perhaps I assumed wrongly? Cheers Kev

The five i got from hab were stay dry ones and seem to be a different rubbery material.
Never had problems with dampers and no drier.

The damper/filter is in there to reduced an acoustic resonance of the hook/tubing.

They are a bit of a historical throwback to peakier receivers in aids with fewer channels, where you couldn’t easily control the bang on the peak resonance without affecting gain elsewhere.

They’re not designed as a vapour barrier as the mesh is open.

Thank you @Um_bongo for that clarification, yeah on recollection, I have read the damper was to do with acoustics, so can we dispense with it, as it appears to be a throwback from yesteryear, or is it still important? Cheers Kev

Shouldn’t just be binned if the SW already includes it. However the aid should be capable of replicating its function.

Thank you Stephen… As always, we are much obliged for your knowledgeable response  Cheers Kev

Thank you so much. I’ve removed it from Automatic. Another feature of Target I knew nothing about. To be honest, there’s loads. For example, I’d love to lose that dotted “estimated feedback” line in

Peter

Can someone check gain tables in Target for P90/L90for me please.
I added Speech in loud noise as a manual program on my P70’s and the gain tables are the same as Speech in noise.
The only difference is that mic has gone from Ultra zoom to stereo zoom.
Phonak may have anticipated this.
