Further thoughts for those interested in the Phonak Lumity Naida SP. I have been wearing these aids for a few days without any further tinkering. I think I have got that sweet spot in terms of the default loudness (the volume at 0) and the overall mix of bass, mids and highs.
So this morning I went to the Tennis club, which is a challenging environment, for 3 reasons. Firstly, the clubhouse, which has difficult acoustics and is usually full of people waiting to get on court. Secondly, the outdoor courts, where hearing at distance presents a challenge, especially in windy conditions like today. And thirdly, the indoor bubble, which is an inflatable bubble, with 3 indoor courts and a high ceiling, where sound goes to die.
I would say I did OK talking to various people but I had to have my wits about me. I needed more volume outdoors and indoors it was slightly too bassy in the automatic setting, so I manually selected the “speech in noise” program and kept the volume up. This has kept car noise out too, so that got me thinking - in Target there is a slider called “dynamic noise cancellation”, but it is greyed out. Phonak advocate that the end user i.e. us, use the “speech focus” feature in the app when the program goes into “speech in noise” or “speech in loud noise”. The problem I have with this, is that it’s not possible to do this whilst driving or playing tennis, even if it does scrub 4dB of noise, which Phonak claims. Does anybody have experience of this? Has your audiologist set this in Target? Or do you use the app?
Another plus is that when listening to the radio in the Kitchen via our Alexa speakers, it is a much improved experience. Because the kitchen can get loud when I am cooking, my experience with the Ric, is that music would sound very subdued. Not so with the .
Going to French class tomorrow and Tennis again midweek. Hope to find a really noisy environment soon.

Although I have Audeos, I find this very interesting, especially the 3 environments you refer to, and their different challenges. Thank you.

Haha. It’s actually no problem at all. I’ve never had them come out. In fact, over 30 years ago, I played rugby with them in. When I play, I wear a headband and insert it between the aids and my ear. But this is just old habit, as I know they are now ip68 rated and wouldn’t be affected by sweat anyway now.

If I could play tennis like him and look half as cool as he does here my job on this planet would be done.! One of the best shotmakers in history.

Yeah. Pistol Pete. 14 slams to Agassi’s 8. Still, Agassi wasn’t far behind. And achieved grand slams on all 4 surfaces.

I have to say, as a former avid tennis fan, we don’t seem to have the characters we had back then, John McEnroe was my favorite player of that 70’s, 80’s & 90’s era, with 7 slams, and 77 APT Tour singles titles, interestingly enough, he had 78 APT Tour Doubles titles, which I find astonishing, as I always thought he was more of a singles player! He had some ding, dong battles with Jimmy Connors, 20-14 in the head to head in favor of John, yet Jimmy had 8 slams, and 109 singles titles, but sparks where almost certain to fly when they met… Fun times

Something interesting has been happening folks, well I find it interesting… Since my removal of the dampers (last week) from the Naida Lumity ear hooks, there appears to be a marked increase in my overall perception of words in noise, I appear to have better understanding or better word comprehension, maybe I am just being more attentive? I was in a noisy old VW camper today, a diesel, and it’s loud! On the way up to Inverness, for a pool comp, I was hearing nearly everything the driver was saying, I missed the odd word, but I was catching most of the conversation, the driver is fairly quiet spoken, and normally I will stick a Roger on him, if I want to talk, on the way back it was a fairly similar experience, it’s not a massive improvement, but it is enough for me to notice… Cheers Kev

It’s warming up nicely here in the North @Baltazard… But it was a long cold winter, although my house was toasty (for a change) as I completed a brand new heating system installation in late November last year, my Air Source Heat Pump, packed in the year before, and no one would repair it for me, so the previous winter was horrendously cold, Heat Pumps, are okay, but they aren’t made for the the present Scottish Winters, so, I reverted back to a Eco Oil Boiler, I am off the Gas Grid, by a couple of miles… So, having endured a Heat Pump for around 10 years, I decided a bit of winter warmth in my dotage wouldn’t go amiss! I did the obvious research, and the Eco Oil Boiler I had installed, is fairly environmentally friendly when you are, Off Grid, and you have fewer options… Speaking of which, I read an article a few years ago, on global warming, in this article, it claimed Scotland would become the new Wine growing region of Europe, with its weather more akin to France, in the not too distant future! As for Inverness itself, it is widely regarded as the plainest speakers of the Kings English in the whole of the UK, and having lived all over the UK, from Cornwall to Shetland, I tend to agree…Cheers Kev

That’s good news Kev!
Isn’t it amazing that the smallest detail affects word comprehension and happiness with hearing aids.
I regularly suggested changes to my diespensing audi (who quit, or fired me). Those suggestions always worked. Domes. Receivers. .

@kevels55
I can vouch for the very soft Scottish accent of Inverness, from the two holidays (beer festival visits) I spent in Drumnadrochit, many moons ago. It’s easier to understand, for me being just south of the border, than the accent I encountered when watching “Still Game” for the first time. I really did need subtitles on, for the first series
Kev, sounds good with your news on Speech in Car. I haven’t found a solution for when I’m sat in the back. Comfort in Echo, Speech in Loud Noise, Speech in Car and Speech in Echo all seem about the same to me. I end up reverting to my default Music programme.

I had issues hearing in the Jeep Wrangler I have. As passenger I couldn’t hear. Difficulty was the chosen “speech focus” setting. It was pinpoint wide and the directional mics were focused straight ahead.

Yeah Peter, when the time is right, and it is favourable to your pocket, I would be inclined to seek out a set of Lumity aids, trial aids tend to be a lot cheaper, for obvious reasons, but that’s not a problem if you have Target & Noahlink wireless… In an ideal world, Naida Lumity (Trial) SP ’s might be the weapon of choice, if you can get hold of them at a reasonable price? That way you get the 13 batteries, The BTE sound quality, and the reduced price, always a bonus
But to be very honest, if a set of Naida Lumity (Trial) UP BTE’s where available, again at a reasonable price, don’t be put off, you’ll also get them to fit, granted a bit more chunkier, but 10 or 11 days runtime, on a 675 battery, and more than adequate headroom
Cheers Kev ![]()

If the seller knows how to tweet the “Trial” , he might be able to remove the locking system in the HA’s. We never know what have been done to the HA’s. Reengineering of the software inside the HA’s or just tweeting around the programming software.
The seller eBay did not mention which model he is offering to the buyer - just Phona k Naida Lumity UP 675. There are 4 versions ( 90-70-50-30) of the Naida Lumity… Just TRIAL version - fully upgradeable! Even the “PHONAK” is typed as “PHONA K”. The price shown is a pair of HA’s or ONE HA’s!.
Make sure how many pieces of HA’s you get for the price you pay!

This has been discussed before and it’s a scam, you cannot remove this limitation, why else would they still had “trial” written on them, Sonova would never do this for some eBay seller, it’s crazy to think this, I can’t find the previous post when we discussed it, but we never heard back from the person who brought some to try.

Buying online has to be very careful. Once the money is in the other pocket, it is very hard to get back.
Thanks for the feedback.
