Preparing a backup pair of Phonak L-90s

HI all

I just received a second pair of phonak L-90 (the L90-R) to use as a backup for my L90-RL. They’re on the charger, and I want to have them prepped as a backup in case anything happens to my main pair.

Is it as simple as going into Target, connecting to them and loading the previous session from my main into them?

any other tips/concerns etc? for example, as of now they don’t have the red/blue markings to show R/L, but I imagine that’s a just a tab somewhere on the hearing aid? Also, should I create a new client with this new pair, like a different version of my name to keep things straight?

please outline the process to make these an exact replica of my current L90s if you can

Attach the receivers, if you haven’t already, before connecting the new ones to Target. And the receivers should each have come with a plastic tab you can install that identifies the body of the with its lateral side.

As to your main question: I’m not sure what Target will do if you try to upload a session for one set of serial numbers into a pair with different numbers.

I think I might rather create a new client, connect, and download. It will download everything – , coupler specs, Feedback and real ear test, and fitting parameters.

thanks - when you say download - after creating a new client, where would I be downloading from?

I think it’s ok tho, because @Zebras says she has 2 sets of serial numbers in different sessions on the same client, I can’t find the post, but it’s explained how, if it were me, I’d just export the original and then make another client and import, should be exactly the same.

This doesn’t work since Marvel.

Unless the Aids are identical, so both Audeo L90 R or Audeo L90 RL, then using the same client won’t work.

Thanks - so how would I do this with my main set being L-RL and the backups being L-R? I was told by a that they would translate perfectly, but he didn’t get into details about how…

He has different Aids that won’t transfer properly as they are 1 x RL and 1 x R. They have to be identical in all aspects.

For example, I couldn’t do 1 x Sky V70 UP into 1 x Sky V70 SP but I could from 1 x Sky V70 UP into 1 x Sky V70 UP.

You would have to take a picture of each part and change settings manually.

Try and transfer first but many people say it only changes the programs, so if you have different programs, it’ll make them the same. In terms of gain / fine tuning etc, it doesn’t change.

Changing manually, it’ll take a long time but it’s worth it.

Ugh - thanks…i hope you’re wrong. I bought these because my said they would transfer back and forth perfectly…And I bought them not from my HIS but from Ebay. I guess, as you say, I could copy everything over - tedious, but that would get me there in a pinch. and If I ever made a change to my main pair I’d have to make that change in the backups as well while I remembered it. I’m now thinking it would have been better to pay more for the exact submodel in what you’re saying is true (90LR to 90LR). I’ll know on friday.

You would have to connect both pairs each time anyway if you made changes.

Adjusting one pair won’t change the pair that hasn’t been connected.

There is an export / import setting but even an audiologist on this forum a few days ago said this feature doesn’t work well.

thanks - there was somebody here, maybe @bluejay ? that had a backup pair? There MUST be a way to have a working backup ready so that in the event of a problem, I can swap them out with a second pair and keep going…(I work in the music business, so failing hearing aids means I have to suddenly cancel work). This seems like it has to exist.

Quite easy to get a backup pair ready to go in case of any issues but the super quick way of export / import doesn’t work.

Doesn’t mean you can’t have a working backup pair.

Bluejay is a user not an audiologist.

Why don’t you create a new client and export / import now and see if it works. You don’t need the actual to see if it works. Just save to the software / computer

So Import/export didn’t work either.

My very patient was able to manually copy over any of the created programs, and the rest lined up pretty well. So at this point I do have backups loaded with what appear to be very similar settings, although I haven’t actually worn them yet to test that.

I wonder if this would have had the same issues with identical L-90 RL models, or if it just isn’t something that can be done. I imagine it’s a good option to have, if someone’s hearing aid fails and the store wants to give them a loaner for example…the manual thing is tedious. Definitely a software need at some point.

Export / import wouldn’t have worked still but you could have loaded the same settings from the same client into the identical pair of Aids. Example would be, loosing a pair of Aids, getting identical Aids back and Audi loading the exact same settings.
