I’m looking to get my first hearing aids and am looking for a little help. My hearing test is included below as reference but my left ear is relatively useless so I’ve been living with one useful ear the last couple of years. I went to an and they found nothing correctable so it’s time for at least one hearing aid. I’m 58.
My insurance covers $1500 in hearing aid expenses every 3 years. Based on research I’ve been doing, I’m currently planning to use Costco.
Questions:
1.) From my research, it seems that is what is usually recommended. I’m a practical person so I value performance and battery life but I would love to hear some advice on how / hearing aids compare to the popular RIC aids. I’m not hugely vain but I still work full time and the visibility of the RIC units is a little concerning to me. (I have very short hair and also wear glasses).
2.) For me to wear these at work, I have to get them approved and two of the popular Costco RIC models I had been researching as early recommendations (Philips 9040 and Jabra Pro 20) are not approved. This is also part of the reason I’m asking about ITC/CIC models. I have not been to Costco yet so I don’t yet know all the models they sell and which of those are approved while also being good performers with reasonable battery life. My preference is to get the best performing models but I have to evaluate a potential compromise to be able to wear these at work (or forfeit wearing them at work which I expect is not recommended by experienced users).
Thanks in advance…
