I’m wasn’t talking about replacing earmolds from recievers, but the recievers from the rest of the aid…
anyway they did it already anyway, and it sure felt different from before, just not better because the programming was a new one.
Is the hearing aid under warranty? A problem with mid frequency amplification that comes and goes when you touch the device and that isn’t the receiver wire–sounds like a manufacturer repair.
You sure your clinician said she replaced the whole aid rather than just the wire? It would be quite odd for a clinician to replace the whole hearing aid right there in the shop.
Thats what she told me…
Im not sure if its still under warranty but I think so, because all these times I went there since mid-december they never charged me anything, not even yesterday when they said they replaiced the aid with a new one.
In my town its just audiologists, but in this other town they have two technicians there beside the audiologists, they usually repair the aids there.
I am having the same problem with my left hearing aid. It turns on and off in its own, and it can’t consistently connect to Bluetooth when streaming. The battery is fresh, I have gone through all the steps. This is the second pair of Widex 440 aids that I have had. The first were lemons. I am regretting getting Widex.
Now I have to see the audiologist again. He is not familiar with widex and when he has called for help, they have been useless. I will never spend thousands of dollars on widex again.
Have you used the cleaning tools supplied with the aids? Sometimes the battery contact can get build up on it and carefully lightly brushing the contact enables full power again. I also use a drying box every night which really helps keep everything running as it should.
I have disposable battery aids. They work best for my life style. And yes the batteries are fresh. I went through the widex steps and tried to forget and repair. Now there is absolutely no Bluetooth connection on the left ear. So I will have to make yet another appointment with the audiologist.
That’s interesting thanks. I never received any brushes with my hearing aids. Just the hearing aids and the storage box. I’ll have to ask my audiologist if I should have gotten some.
Guess what. My left hearing aid (the one I need the most for my normal lifestyle) seems to be faulty again. And I think it’s the same problem I had on the ending of 2023/beggining of 2024.
A few weeks ago I was normally sitting at my desk, working, and I felt it going off and then immediatly on again, and I slowly started noticing that the sound wasn’t the same. I went to the tecnicians, he said it was fine, it wasn’t on warranty anymore, but he replaced one of the components for free (i’m not remembering the name now, it was not the microphone). I left the place, and while driving my way back home I felt it was the same shit, not working properly, couldn’t listen to music properly, can’t hear voices properly, even tho loud sounds like the car, or cars passing by seem to hear just fine.
On the next 2-3 days, I felt that the aid would randomly start working fine at the end of the day, and badly again in the morning, and then after a few days it stabilized and started working fine. fast forward to this week, It’s been shitty again since monday.
Today I finally managed to get off of work to go there again (it’s a hour-long drive), had it checked again, and I recieved it working just as badly as it was, and been told to schedule an appointment with my audiologist…
I feel SO FRUSTRATED and I feel like crying because I don’t know what to do, as this looks like the beggining of the year again, going there endless times just to be gaslighted (not intentionly, obviously) that maybe I’m losing my hearing or whatever.
Is this even possible? Can a person start randomly hear badly and then good again?
I don’t know if I told this here previously, but I went to the extent to go to a hearing doctor (?) to get my ears and nose checked if somthing was wrong with my, got “scammed” into doing an that I ended up paying more than 100€ for (I didn’t know it was gonna be paid, I thought it was part of the medical appointment and he didn’t warn me) just to be told after by my audiologist that it wasn’t that different from before when she saw it.
again, I’m SOOOOO frustrated. I paid €6.000 for these and had to pay them in 24 months to be able to afford them, 4 years ago, and It seems I only had a super decent earing for 1 or 2 weeks before all went to shit…
I imagine the receiver was replaced and clearly there is an issue. Can you insist on it being sent back to Widex? Sometimes faults aren’t picked up, I have been fortunate that if I can’t fix it I know it needs to go back to the manufacturer and this is supported. Not sure what type of aid you have but after doing the usual-replacing wax trap/polishing battery contacts/drying mc overnight/using cleaning tools, checking battery or charge I know it needs to go back to the manufacturer. Trust your instincts, you know it was working fine and now it’s not again so persist and no good support team would refuse it going back to the manufacturer if the problem remains.
I think my instincts are right on this.
However, I don’t know if “sending them back to widex” is an option, since the place I went is an actual widex place (not a store) with audiologists and technicians on site. Worse than that, it’s a hour driving away from me, so I can’t just simply go there anytime I want because of that (and I have job too during the day xD). And even if “sending them back” is an option, well, my backup aids are even worse than this one is right now I think, that I only used to use them when I went to play football because they’re a pair of those small, in-canal, ones, and I’m afraid I’ll get a ball kicked in my face side and smash them if I use the new, behind-the-ears ones.
Of course if I was garanteed that they would come in new and working fine, I wouldn’t mind be a week or two without them, but not only I don’t have that, this has been lasting so long that now my aids’ waranty is now void and I will probably will have to pay for it, even tho this is bugging me for almost a year…
So, I’ve spent the last half hour exploring the compass gps app, and noticed two or three things…
First, the feedback test. When I do the test, now I get these blue areas that weren’t there before…
What do these mean? I did the test several times, and every time these blue areas are different. Sometimes the one on the right would supress the green line.
Then on the sensogram, two specific frequencies are “weird”.
The pic shows 1.5k at 80, but I usually had it at 75. I did the sensogram myself when the were working fine, it was a while back but I assume these values were fine by then. Now when I do the sensogram, I can’t hear the 1.5k tone clearly unless I set it a 90, and faintly at 85. (I think I tried to put all of them at the point I could hear each tone faintly), so I wouldn’t have it too loud.
Another strange thing, I don’t hear the 6k frequency AT ALL, even if I put it on the max value (95 I think), but I can hear the 8k tone very clearly at 75 (the one I hear most clearly actually). Is this normal in a person’s hearing, to not be able to listen to a very specific frequency “in the middle” of the others? Or could it be the hearing aid that’s faulty?
About the 1.5k frequency, isn’t that one of the main frequencies for the human voice? I suppose this could be the problem, but could I’ve lost hearing on this very specific frequency suddenly?
Edit:
I just remembered two things…
I usually listen to podcasts using bluetooth connectivity so I can hear them more clearly, and now they seem much lower volume than usually, even when I set the volume to the max, but if I’m listening to music the volume seems normal, even tho the music is now a mess.
Yesterday while I was driving to widex, I tried to listen to these podcasts on my car via bluetooth, and something strange (and similar to the point before) happened…I usualy have my phone volume max so I can control volume with the car radio controls, but yesterday when I tried to do this, either the volume was too low on ,let’s say, up to volume 2/3, then audible but confusing/not clear on volume 4 upwards, and after volume 5 or 6, no matter how much I raised volume up to 20 or whatever level max is on the radio, it felt like I was the same as volume 5 or 6… I felt like the podcast voice level wasn’t turning up with the volume level. Of couse I gave up trying to listen to podcasts and switched to music and got immediatly blasted with huge bass and drums bc of the very high volume I had the radio on from the podcast…
Just trust yourself, I think I felt almost as bad about it not working than someone not believing me. People can try to encourage that the problem is resolved when you can hear it isn’t. I am not sure how it works where you are but in England there is only one place that does Widex repairs-the official Widex facility. The people who fit the hearing aids can cover minor issues such as receiver replacements etc and may have Widex training but are not qualified to fix greater issues such as the main part of the aid. Some dispensers have sent my aid to third party repair facilities which I didn’t realise at the time and the repairs were very poor and parts replaced weren’t Widex ones and it didn’t sound right. If it was me I would write down what’s happened and ask for that, alongside the aid to be returned to an official Widex repair facility.
thanks for the reply. I will try and do that. I have an appointment with my audiologist there at Widex in Porto on wednesday and I will try to know and insist on that.
No, only delete the pairing between the hearing aids and smartphone in Compass GPS. If the problem is not solved, discard your data and start a new session for a new fitting.
A friend’s Widex Moment 440 suddenly became very quiet and strange. After trying many methods, the problem was not solved, and finally, after entering Compass GPS and deleting the pairing between the hearing aids and smartphone, it returned to normal.
It sounds unbelievable, but it’s worth a try. Good luck!
