But what are the practical differences in speech comprehension, noise suppression?

Depends on what you’re looking for. Edu mic does more and has some nice features. That makes it very versatile. Connect doesn’t have as many features and is more limited but a lot cheaper compared to the edu version. There are videos that talk about both. I have used both and like Edu version best. Hopefully this helps.

I liked to use remote micro rum in restaurant conversations. i insert the micro on the table to understand people better. I’ve read somewhere that the phonak roger 2 does this very well. and on oticon?

To use the roger you will need the edu version as it has the three plug to plug in a Roger receiver so you can use the Roger on. It can be a bit pricey but it a very handy and versatile hearing tool. Hopefully this helps.

I have been trying to find a comparison of the Edumic vs the Connect clip and I finally found it. Use this link and near the bottom of the page it gives a side-by-side comparison. Hope it helps, it helped me decide. https://www.oticon.com/-/media/oticon-us/main/download-center/pediatric-resources/15500-0350---rm---peds-edumic-guide-242564.pdf?la=en204

[1] The EduMic has the 3pin Euro connector for a Roger X. I also have the Roger Pen, but I can’t say that it works just as brilliantly as the Roger Pen+Roger X + Phonak Compilot did.
[2] The EduMic also has a 3.5mm connector, which it quite nice, since you can hook it up to any headset port and stream to your ears. Quite good quality. However, if I compare the analog music from my mobile phone to the digital audio streaming to the ConnectClip, the ConnectClip wins quite convincingly.**
[3] Pretty annoying, though, is that the EduMic is older technology and when I switch it on, it switches my Oticon Real 1 hearing aids to the mic channel (channel -1), not to the TV adapter/EduMic channel (channel -2). This feature can’t be turned off, nor can it be changed to the correct channel.
[4] The EduMic can connect to multiple hearing aids.* This would be brilliant in a school setting, hence Edu.
[5] The ConnectClip connects to any BT audio output that I have met up to this day. It works. Nice range, too.
[6] The ConnectClip also has an mic. Works well if you clip in on your conversation partner.
[7] When having a rather long social session with someone wearing my ConnectClip or EduMic, it is rather nice to have both, since invariably one of gadgets loses it charges after several hours.
So they are both mics, but not for necessarily for the same settings. The connectivity is rather different. The EduMic is rather expensive. It is a disgrace that the ConnectClip hasn’t got a version for 175€ that has the Euro pins and a 3.5mm port.
EDIT:
[8] The controls for both differ quite a lot. A long press shuts the ConnectClip off. The EduMic erases all connected devices by a long press. A short press shuts that one off. (I remember not being able to shut the EduMic off in a slighly intoxicated state.
)
EDIT:EDIT:
[9] @cvkemp writes below that the range of the EduMic is better than the ConnectClip. My house isn’t big enough to experience the difference, though.
*Just like the TV adapter or not? My mother has Oticon aids now, so I’ll test that in a week or so.
** Yes, this could indeed say more about the mobile phone than about the EduMic.

Thanks for the comparison. I’m thinking about buying Edumic, as I had a negative experience with Connectclip. I have a question about point 3. Does Edumic always turn on the microphone program? Even if it’s in audio input or Europin mode?

Yes, it does. Quite annoying.
To stress the point: Even if used as a microphone, it will change to my mic program (channel -1). However, I won’t receive sound from the EduMic on that program. I only receive sound on the TV Adapter/EduMic (channel -2) program. The EduMic is definitely not made with the Oticon Real’s in mind, nor are the Oticon Real’s programmed to handle the EduMic. It’s older tech, that works. Kinda.

Is it because it switches to microphone mode first? Try turning it off, plug in the audio input or Europin, and only then turn it on.

So it’s not just Connectclip that has problems - Edumic has them too. Everyone at Oticon should be ashamed of this. These accessories are not cheap, and the battery cannot be replaced. It’s garbage.

I agree, these accessories should work out of the box, and it’s not just Oticon, they are all guilty of this!

and the battery cannot be replaced.
I’ve been replacing batteries in these gadgets for years. Sometimes it’s a hassle. Sometimes it’s easy. Just order the right sized battery from the internet. The naming convention is the size. So e.g. the 503450 is 50mm by 34 mm by 5.0 mm. Check the number of wires, though. Otherwise you have to point weld the battery to the old PCB.

I have several connect clips, for my primary and backup aids I also have a EduMic that I use mostly for my wife’s safety. Shw loves her walk in tub, and uses it like a hot tub for one. She gets leg cramps at times. I cannot hear her calling me normally so I give her the EduMic set to microphone mode that she sets in the bathroom room while she is in the tub. If she needs help she just calls. You ask why not the connect clip? The clip doesn’t have the needed range.

I would like Oticon to release a new version of Connectclip, with 3.5mm and Europin connectors. Is there any way to convey this opinion to the people at Oticon? Or are they too high and far away to hear us like earthworms?
