I would advise to return your Plain Roger On v2, and get a refund, @mthomas_uk … There is a new version of Roger On iN v3 due for imminent release, which has unlimited Licenses, it will be much more expensive, but it is probably a better option? Cheers Kev

I feel abit fleeced by Phonak on this one. No mention of having to buy additional hardware (or licences) - I might send it all back and stick with my Starkeys. I’ve already spent £3100!

Yeah @mthomas_uk, Phonak make exceptionally good aids, and exceptional Roger ALD’s (Assistive Listening Devices) but they do like their pound of flesh… They are usually guilty of being pretty vague or noncommittal in their blurbs, on what you actually need for a Roger set up, so being fleeced, comes with the territory… Most or a lot of us old hands, know the pitfalls or perhaps money grabs, might be more appropriate? So some of us buy our Roger ALD’s from eBay, saves a small fortune, if you are going to go for any Roger ALD’s in the future, educate yourself… I have made the exact same mistakes as you, I now have lots of different Roger ALD’s, some of them were a mere fraction of the price… Good Luck, cheers Kev

I’ve been doing some research and just a bit confused and wondered if anyone could enlighten me.

1 - If I bought a Roger On In from say ebay, how do you physically transfer the licence for 2 hearing aids?
2 - How would you know that the Roger device does not have the licence transferred to some hearing aids already?
3 - If you bought a Roger On In, and transferred the licence to your hearing aids, is there anything to stop anyone transferring the licence back out? (I’m not sure how that would happen, but suppose the device was faulty, how can phonak move the code out of your hearing devices if they were to send a replacement?
4 - Does one Roger On In Mic cover the licence for 2 hearing aids or only 1?

1. There are a few threads and youtube videos showing how to do this. Basically, you put the roger into transfer mode by putting a small pin, such as a paperclip, into the small hole under the clip for a couple of seconds until the transfer icon appears on the Roger display, then place the hearing aid (one at a time) very near the Roger. The transfer will take place and you can probably hear the transfer notification.

2. If you put a small pin into the transfer hole under the clip for just a second, or part of the second, the number of licenses present in the Roger will appear on the display.

3)The licenses are transferable in both directions. During the transfer process licenses transfer from a loaded location to an empty location. This enables you to remove the licenses if you want to sell or dispose of the hearing aids. There is a method of recovering licenses that have been removed from the Roger by using Roger Upgrade software available free from Phonak.

4. Each Roger On iN should contain 2 licenses (one for each hearing aid),

When you have a Roger license in each hearing aid you are good to go and do not need additional licenses for other non-educational products. In other words you do not need additional licenses for additional Roger Ons, a Roger Select or a Roger Table Mic II.

As I posted elsewhere, my audiologist tells me that Sphere is not compatible with Roger v1 or v2. For Sphere you will need the new Roger v3.
The cynic may suggest that this is another wheeze to squeeze a few pounds from users…
Sphere has no loop capability either.
During my trial period I am using Sphere, but then going back to my old Phonak to connect to Roger if I want to hear the TV etc.

Your audiologist doesn’t know what they are talking about. I have the Infinio Sphere and it works with my Roger Pen In and my Roger On and my Partner Mic. Your audi is just trying to upsell you a version 3 Roger.

If your Roger is a Roger iN go here, attach your Roger and select "Read Device Data: and you will see the option to add/Recover licenses which you can use in the new Sphere.

We have a user here who bought two pairs of hearing aids, and her audiologist in concert with phonak made her buy a second Roger On totally needlessly. “Watch your back and keep your hand on your wallet.”

Welcome to the “Phonak Fleeced Club”. Many of us on here have found this out the hard way too. They do appear to be softening on this, but this doesn’t help your predicament. Anyway, you’ve found the right place on this issue, as many Audiologists have little Phonak product knowledge. I sorted my Roger License issues via here and Ebay. I picked up some RogerXs (serial number above 1744) and a Roger Installer. I also, later, bought a TableMic II iN, which had a few licenses remaining.
