Roger on v Roger select

Your understanding of Type 02 and 03 receivers seems to be mistaken. Type 02 receivers are for Phonak educational devices such as the Roger Touchscreen, but also work with consumer devices. Type 03 receivers will work with any consumer type Roger device including Table Mic, Roger Select and Roger but not the educational devices.

In UK Ive been told for the Oction users to use Reciever 02 to connect Roger Pen : In our experience we have found that the output level of the Type 03 receivers is insufficient for use with Oticon hearing aids.

Not selling to, but Ive had a Roger pen through Access to Work roughly around 2016. During that period I worn Phonak HA until NHS upgraded Oction Xceed in 2019. I have tried several times connecting Roger Pen just could not hear any output from Reciever 03 despite NHS activated Oction to Phonak Roger Pen along with receiver 03. So I’m stuck and completely lost.

Also, Im keen to upgrade Roger On but unsure which Reciever I would require to connect Oction Xceed? It is 03 or 02……

I would not buy anything until I am ascertain with information given beforehand.

Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds extremely “iffy” to me @MDB… The only difference I have found, Roger Type (02) are compatible with all Roger Devices, I have 2 sets of both, Type (02 & 03)… Cheers Kev

Well, Im mainly looking for something to boost my hearing especially in noisy background, restaurant, in the car, taking it to my small office talking to my team.

@Sara82
I assume that you mean with “boosting hearing” is just what every HOH needs namely speech recognition?
I tried the Roger Pen which is in comparance to the Roger On clearly less functional/ usable. Is the old version of more or less same device.

If your groups are 4 to most 6 people then the On is pretty good and nice to have on the table. If the group gets bigger it’s less effective in my opinion.

I use it as a passenger in the car which helps but my Sphere HA’s seem to do a better job at the moment, although I did not experiment it a lot untill now.

In my train traveling my On is a kind of spy weapon, my Spheres do their job, I can hear and talk to people. But if they are further away my spy does the work.

Problem in practical use could be the long time usage. I wonder if you stand the noise whole day long which is also amplified. My usecase is now and then turned on and most of the time of. But if you go for a walk or bike riding the On can be useful around the neck of the accompagniing person.

Can anybody else clarify whether there is any difference in strength between Type 2 and 3 receivers

Wasn’t aware either of a property of output differences. But expert users as @MDB mentions will come in I hope to clarify.

I have Phonak hearing aids with both 02 and 03 receivers and they both appear to give exactly the same performance when connected to my Roger on, Select and Table Mic IIs. If you are going to purchase only one device, I would suggest the Roger On. The Roger On has all of the functionally of the Roger Select plus the pointing mode which is the mode I use most. The Roger On also can be used in the table mode or the presenter mode if desired. Also by using the MyRoger app the directionally can be controlled when used in the table mode. If you just want to use the device in meetings, then I would consider the Table Mic II. This has the advantage of being able to add additional Table Mic IIs together in a network fashion. While the Roger On can be networked with an additional Roger On or a Roger Select there are limitations e.g. the Roger On must be worn around the neck of someone and the connection is limited to one additional device. Those limitations are not present if you are using the Table Mic IIs.

I’m out of the country so won’t be checking on the forum for 6 weeks. Currently travelling and can still access internet.

Sara just needs her EasyGain adjusted.

It’s been well recorded that Oticon doesn’t sound as loud with the Roger set up.

Can someone explain EasyGain to Sara as I can’t spend much time on the internet.

Phonak Roger - Adaptive Gain vs Easy Gain

Yes, adaptive gain is available in all Roger receivers. Adaptive gain is a feature that adjusts the gain of the Roger signal according to the amount of noise measured by Roger microphone. It’s a way to make sure that the Roger signal remains stronger than the surrounding noise picked up by the hearing aid microphone and it’s based on the assumption that the Roger signal is cleaner (have better signal-to-noise ratio) than the hearing aid signal, and that you would benefit from tilting the balance…

Phonak Roger licences and Roger On In

I read a Phonak article about easy gain (I will try to find it). If we are talking about the same thing you can increase the gain on the Roger ON by putting the Roger into verification mode (hold the Roger near the HAs and hold the large button for 9 seconds, or until the V appears. Then you can adjust the gain by touching the rim of the button. The Roger will scroll up to the max and then to the max negative gain and then up again with each touch. I did this with my 03 licenses. Is this w…

Yes, that’s right - that Roger Reciever.

I will ask Audio regarding Easygain. Hopefully, I get some luck with NHS appt! Not sure if the private audio will access to Easygain.

Sorry I was making you somewhat confusing and I appreciate your input which has immensely supportive.

I think the issue may be the “The Roger X Receivers”? Or possibly the Phonak (Oticon) Shoes, how old are these shoes? Perhaps Roger X Receivers, from 10 years ago, may be incompatible with Roger Assistive Listening Devices? For instance, only Roger (02 & 03) with serial numbers above 1744, will work with Marvel, paradise, Lumity, and Sphere, any Roger X Receivers prior to this, are basically obsolete… Cheers Kev.

Thought this may be the case.

Reciever 03 was purchase in 2014 whereas Direct audio shoe (FM10) was purchased in 2022.

I think that’s your problem @Sara82 … Newer Receivers will probably sort you out, I bought most of mines at a fraction of the cost from eBay, there are usually a few for sale on there, check the serial numbers before you buy, by messaging the seller… Good luck, cheers Kev.
