Hi All,
I posted in this thread in Jan 2025 just after my initial surgery but haven’t been back since ‘tho I have posted in other threads.
Like Guitardreamer, I am with on L and Phonak Naida Link M on R. My system, installed at Mayo Clinic in Jan 2025 suffers from distortion that limits conversation and especially my enjoyment of music although I still attend concerts, including a nice one by the Phoenix Symphony last night.
Last Oct. my audiologist found my hearing comprehension had deteriorated and reported this to the surgeon, who ordered a scan that showed the electrode had moved. I had “revision” surgery this Feb., which has significantly improved my hearing comprehension. One oddity: before the 2nd surgery I heard a metallic hum if I touched the L ear, especially when the CI was not connected. Since that surgery, the hum is gone.
The CI helps especially with high frequency sounds, like bird calls. Indeed, finches are often annoyingly loud. My audiologist reduced the high freq. gain, which helps.
With the CI and also with the 2 previous HAs, I could hear much better via streaming from my Zenbook computer (for both voice & music) than from using the device microphones. Also giving a speaker a Roger or Partner microphone helps considerably. I especially like Zoom meetings. Streaming from an iPhone is better than vis microphones but not as good as from the computer.
One criticism of AB: I find their app primitive, not advanced. The battery level indication is nearly useless: It shows only 3 levels 100, 75 or 50%. Once I started a walk at 50% battery and the CI shut down ~10 minutes later. After I got home, I tried charging the battery for just 2 minutes and it again showed 50% charge. The app also lacks any frequency controls.
