I use a hell of a lot of gear, and can tell you that most controls display current status, not the status one could switch to.
@IGZO I think you’re confusing control buttons and status indicators. The mute/unmute button, like the play button, is for control, not for indicating status.
Well then the button should always show the same thing, and another button should be for the opposite.
Otherwise the button is a toggle. And especially since it change with any touch of the Stream strength it is even more confusing.
OK, I am not looking to beat a dead horse.
I thank you all who tried darn hard to set me straight and to help me see the error of my understanding.
Perhaps at best I need to accept that this is how it is, and that we disagree on how it would make much more sense and be far more intuitive if the CONTROL button always represented the status. With all that our challenged brains need to focus on, we don’t need to be tasked with constantly mentally inverting the display to interpret status. Once we know that the icon displaying the status also functions as a switch to toggle that status, we would be far better than having to constantly remind ourselves that the light is red, because it is showing green!
But don’t worry, unless I am begged, I shall not protest any longer on this obvious design flaw.
It is annoying, as it does the same, unmute the mics, when adjusting streaming volume on the aids directly.
Unless you’ve had special programming by your , changing the “volume” via the aids is actually changing the balance between ambient sound and the stream. Since you are changing that balance via buttons, having the mics muted makes no sense.
The balance function, if it exists at all may swing the balance in favour of external sounds, What I want is less (or preferably no) external sounds, and not infrequently adjust the volume of streamed audio. The only function that mutes external sounds, ie the mics, is the mute function. Target allows a fixed lowering of external mics in streaming programmes up to -6db only, or off.
In real life, the streaming audio level is adjusted as needed with either app, aid or source (the latter not available on SPDIF), and then the external mics muted by an intermediate press of the down volume button (a setting enabled in Target). This is the only way to adjust streamed volume and mute the aid’s mics.
The issue is that adjusting the streaming volume using either the app or the aids disables mute, which has to be then be enabled again.
Lily! I just had to stop eating breakfast, to respond.
On the one hand, I am glad you are happy with your Audiens.
On the the other hand, perhaps it would be better if you were more self critical. Because I don’t believe those instruments can begin to provide the level of performance that most people need. They pretty much are mere amplifiers.
YES, I am critical of Phonak’s app. I have been emersed in technology, and have far more experience using “gear” than most persons. I have been wearing hearing ads for decades so have a lot of experience to be critical within this gear as well.
The MORE SOPHISTICATED the more EXPENSIVE, and the more expensive the MORE IS EXPECTED, and the more expected the MORE COMPLICATED, and the more complicated, the more design teams need to also be users to experience how the gear is used!
I believe that most hearing aid manufacturers, see the base of their users as somewhat older, much less critical and less savvy than gear manufacturers in other fields. I say this both because of my decades of experience interacting with those companies as a user, via my , and because of my experience interacting with other users - other patients in the both hearing centers and those I meet.
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - try a better hearing aid, like the Philips 9050 from Costco. You may just decide that your ears and your mind deserve more than your current instruments can provide, and also you may want to prevent further problems due to the use of basic machines.
For sure the Philips too have some issues. But the issues that I have been complaining about - while fully justified in doing so - are not the prime criteria in evaluating investment.
IF critical persons like myself don’t complain, then who would, and how could any improvements be expected - EVER!
I have high end cameras. Most users of these big name models, have complaints because the more they know the more they recognize. An amateur using a cheap consumer camera is not going to know enough to complain intelligibly.
Forgive me - my breakfast is fast getting cold. But I care and thought it was important - for you that I clarify my complaints. Let me know how you find Philips compares with your current amplifiers?
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - try a better hearing aid
I may add, that programming whatever you get is probably the most important part, the Audi that does a great job to match you’re hearing losses is the one that will make you’re life great regardless of the hearing aid you wind up getting, you may have to try a few brands to get it right.
Agreed! I took a quick look at the Audien site. Not clear how programmable they might be. They are promoted as being a short road to hearing better. Which could be great. But I would need reference to how that is achieved, otherwise it sounds like “sales”.
And with the wide range of and Hearing Dispenser Specialist’s expertise and services - finding a practitioner that lives up to all the technological as well as the patient’s potential is a tough ask! Not to be taken for granted when found, nor assumed often.
With Phonak you don’t need a converter to stream from a smart tv! I recently got Phonak Infinio i30 aids, and you can pair and connect directly. My husband uses Shokz Openfit 2 earbuds similarly connected, and both receive amazing sound that way.
With Phonak you don’t need a converter to stream from a smart tv!
The Phonak TV streamer, though, uses much less battery energy than streaming directly to Phonak HA via classic . The TV streamer uses a Phonak proprietary BT-like low-energy protocol. If you watch TV for a long stretch, e.g., several football games on the same day(!), you’ll notice the difference.
